To see this now ( I was 33 then) makes me feel even more sad now that I am the same age he was when he was going through those terrible health issues! A CHAMP till the end! Watching the young American basketball stars cluster around a man they all clearly idolized brought tears to my eyes. But watching the Yugoslavian players then come out and surround him with the same warm feelings of respect I think speaks to Ali's universal appeal. He is truly a hero for the world; universally admired and loved in all countries. I can't think of anyone else who has ever had the world-wide love that he so rightfully possesses.

I grew up as a boy listening to Ali's fights on a transistor radio in bed, past my bedtime, in the days before cable and pay per view. When we would have to wait weeks for the fight to be rebroadcast on television. I can't help but cry every time I see him at these kind of ceremonies. For to see the human who was the epitome of speed, grace, endurance, courage stripped of his physical prowess and verbal quickness is sobering reminder of the spiritual lessons he himself always preached.
