Those old hymns are still as freshly anointed by the Holy Spirit today as the day they were first written.

Can anyone give me a good explanation why they have been filed in the ‘not relevant’ section. It is not just in a random church but as I can tell a broad sweep across the majority of churches. Where have the hymnals gone? They have disappeared. Occasionally a hymn is slipped in as a teaser and a reminder of how much theology they contain. Does the music ministry/worship teams across the broad range of churches really feel that the new style of worship has improved? I realize there won’t be a satisfactory answer to my musings, but I am puzzled and I know I am not alone. I try my best to appreciate the new style but I struggle hard.
@sharoncolumpsi52492 жыл бұрын
Another concern with the current worship is that most of the songs introduced are mostly unfamiliar. One rarely learns them and therefore it is difficult to really appreciate them and it then becomes more of a observant style of worship. However, with the repeated hymns becoming ingrained into one’s memories I am reminded of the verse in Isaiah 27 where God instructed them that for the people to learn obedience the Lord would spell it out to them repeating over and over in simple words, precept upon precept, line upon line, which happens with the theology loaded hymns.

Wow! I really dig that worship! My Uncle Frank (RIP) used to listen to, and sing along, to so many of the old hymns. He and my Auntie Earlene never let up on the Gospel. Auntie Earlene is still here at almost 98! What a great witness! Their lives were always about Jesus. Uncle Frank used to say " Son, (he always called me son) We believe within our lifetime The Lord may come for his Church and we will be lifted up". I sit here, singing along, praising God, with tears of joy pouring from my eyes. I rejoice in the fact Uncle Frank is with The Lord. I pray that my Auntie Earlene will be lifted up and hope the Lord will allow me and all the people she witnessed to, the opportunity of seeing her joy on that day. I can almost imagine the look of overwhelming joy on her face. Had it not been for them praying for me, since before I was born over 61 years ago, I may never have been saved. My mom and dad and many family members also had their continual and loving witness and I am sure got saved as a result. Now I am the guy that never lets up on the Gospel, my friends are sometimes irritated but they know I believe with all my heart and I do it because I care about their eternity. I am blessed beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

I live in West Virginia, where these beloved olds hymns were such a part of church worship in days gone by...and the bluegrass gospel is still so very popular! Beautiful job on these songs! The writers of these songs of old really understood the Gospel and the simplicity of that message! So refreshing to hear this! May God continue to bless this ministry!

Oh man your Kenneth Copeland impression is spot on, brother. Seriously, though, this was a help. I've always felt like growling angrily at Satan was weird, unnecessary. But all my models all my life have done just that. So I'd sit back and be like...am I doing this wrong? when I'd resist Satan. But it just felt ingenuine to carry on like I was having a fit, so I just couldn't. Thank you for this message.

Although satan says “ if You bow down to me I’ll give you the kingdoms of the world.” For Jesus to bow down to him, He may receive those kingdoms, but would have to give them right back. Because to bow and worship another is to elevate that one over Yourself. Of course Jesus would never do that. Praise Jesus! God is Wisdom and Truth. He is King of kings, Lord of lords! Just and merciful because of His great Love. Full of Glory. He is everything Good and Holy! ❤

I was recently in an ongoing debate w/few ‘anti-Christ’s’ online who speak w/a self professed authority. They do NOT, have not actually studied The Bible….well Their argument is that Jesus never actually claimed to be God in the flesh. They say Jesus is “just the son, & is brother to lucifer”. They’re also saying that Yahweh means the storm God and is a god related to multiple other gods that are equal in power. This has been so frustrating to me, who has taught kids church for 22 years, heavily studied the word….I wholly and sincerely rely and depend upon HIS wisdom for interpretation and wisdom….this is what I’ve asked them OVER & OVER again, “Do you surrender to His Will, surrender to His wisdom and depend upon HE alone for Bible interpretation”? They repeatedly IGNORE my question and keep reapeating the lies…..finally I dropped it, they’ve been so greatly deceived! The Lord MUST prepare ones mind to receive His word!

I have a very good reading comprehension, but a very poor working memory for numbers and names. I often remember the verses in paraphrase form and usually the book that they're found in, but not the chapter and verse number. So I often Google and write the main theme or part of the actual verse in the search box & hit enter. It then gives me the chapter and verse number. For example I know a verse out of Ephesians as follows: "Be ye angry and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your wrath." However, although I have an uncertain fuzzy memory of it being in Chapter 4, but am clueless as I'm typing this as to the verse number. I'm opening another tab and will Google the verse to get the correct numbers. Done! The verse is Ephesians 4:26. Another way to memorize scripture (w/ repetition) is to take an index card (you can buy a pack of those in a Dollar Tree for $1.25 + tax) and make a flash card out of it. On one side, write out the verse. On the other side, write just the 1st letter of each word, test yourself repeatedly daily & check yourself by turning it over to its written out side. I found that if I repeat a number around 1,000 times, it's in my long term memory for life. I'm in my sixties, but still have phone numbers (including some I looked up in phone books of girls I was interested in while in JR high & high school) in my head from even my early childhood of my home, my grandparents, several aunts & uncles, etc. However, I get very dyslexic with numbers and directions especially when under pressure or in a hurry. For instance I still remember my phone number I had around 15 years ago when I lived in another part of my state. The number had the last 4 numbers 7557 and while filling out job applications, I'd get confused & put 5775 & then wonder why nobody called me back for an interview. My dyslexia also comes out with directions as my head maps complete with clear landmarks are often backwards. I get my left and right confused where I turn left when I should turn right and vice versa. I need GPS to find the ground if I fall out of a tree, or to back out of my driveway and also to find my way around my home (except for the fridge). My dyslexia doesn't seem to noticably affect my reading (which has been tested as exceptional) and writing ability, but conversely, gives me a gift where I can read and write upside down, backwards, etc. I can sign my name backwards 2 ways. I can write backwards starting with the "a" in my last name and ending with the E in my first name. In case I ever go senile and forget my name (which being my memory for names & faces is apallingly poor, it might be possible for me to forget my name without going senile), I can sign my name backwards on a name tag and stick it on my shirt, then look in the mirror where it'll appear forward.
