The Rats and The Haunting of Hill House are such great books. I really like the circular bookcase.

I had some great reads in July and have become a fan of Herbert. The circular shelf is amazing!

My favorite reads in July were The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton (1st time read for this book, even better than The House of Mirth) and The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M. Boston (audiobook). Those were my 5 star reads. My 4 stars were: The Way Things Are by EM Delafield, Voices in Summer by Rosamunde Pilcher, and The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley (3rd time reading because I always intend to read The Firebird next and never do.)

I haven’t read Wharton as I’ve seen the films but think I should try them one day. One of my favourite romances is Mariana by Kearsely. I have several of hers to read. Pilcher I read as a teenager which seems aeons ago. Glad you had such a great reading month.

@@NerdyKathi You should try her! Her plots are fine, but the writing!!! I’ve not seen the movies, I’m sure they are lovely period pieces? But her writing is just superb. I need to fit in more of her works.

I think the book I enjoyed the most in July, to my surprise, is Hunters of Dune. I am not enjoying the series. But this book was good and the best I read.

I've only read the 1st two Dune books which I really liked. I love it when a book surprises us. 😊

You might like Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle. My favorite reads for July was V.V. GANESHANANTHAN's Brotherless Night -the winner of the Women's Prize, Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, and My Brother Michael by Mary Stewart. This month I am reading Kate Morton's The House at Riverton.

You had a good month! I think I read that Levin book about 40+ years ago and I enjoyed it. I did not start tracking my reading until the late 80s, so I'm not positive, though, since I trade my books at our local used bookstore after I read them. I, too, did not like the Stevenson book. All of the gimmicks were just tiresome. My July was a very good reading month with 15 books! We've had several days of extreme heat here in Alabama in the US. Staying inside in the AC is the best way to handle it 🙂. I read #15 of Evanovich and throughly enjoyed it. Lula was at her best!! I also enjoyed 3 more of the Kate Daniel urban fantasy series by Ilona Andrews. The main character has a sarcastic wit that I really like. Another goodie was Bloodlines by Jan Burke, a traditional mystery in the Irene Kelly series. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your July reads. I look forward to another haul video to see your prime day finds!

It was overall a very good reading month. And I agree when the weather doesn’t co-operate it is a perfect time to read. I’ve heard of Ilona Andrews but suspect she may not be for me. And Lula is second only to Grandma Mazur. 😂

@NerdyKathi Kate Daniels is the most enjoyable fantasy series I've read in a long time. I could not put them down! They sound dreadful from the blurbs - post-apocalyptic, strange were creatures, monsters and magic - yuck. But, thanks to an older video from Mara at bookslikewhoa, I tried Magic Bites and am hooked! Kate is my favorite kind of protagonist. She's smart, independent, kick butt and sarcastic! Maybe you could try one from the library? The first 7 are the best ones. Enjoy your reads!

Dang-Amazon really does make it very hard to not buy books

I agree. I'd prefer to buy elsewhere but they are so much cheaper.

I doubt I’ll be reading any more of Stevenson’s books after reading those first two. The writing style gimmick does get old and after the second book I’m surprised his girlfriend was still okay with being his girlfriend!

I still one more of his books and will try that but yes, I’m surprised his girlfriend didn’t dump him, the ungrateful sod.
