Dan, I am a non-pilot follower/subscriber. I've been watching your AQP and other "Probable Cause" videos for a few years now, and have really grown to enjoy your Sunday night rundowns. I am so relieved and glad to see that you're doing well after your accident! God has a purpose for you, and this incident will only make that purpose clearer and more prevalent than ever. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and the others involved, as you continue on the road to recovery. God Bless!

Dan - I live near the Catskill Mountains in NY not too far from where that Malibu crashed...as soon as I saw that the wreckage was dispersed over a mile I knew that had to be an in-flight break-up. The weather here that day was *terrible* - severe storm risk all day... big storms in the afternoon... one that hit us scared me even with my feet planted firmly on the ground... A microburst leveled a campground in same general region of NY earlier before the plane crash. You could *see* towering thunderheads in most any direction all day long...absolutely crazy they even got in the plane that day, let alone took off...
@jimw16156 ай бұрын
Everything has been located from the aircraft except the rudder. So, I suspect that was the first thing that failed, and if so, may account for the erratic flight path at the end of its flight.

@@AlanMydland-fq2vs assume it (Malibu) had a decent panel..How do you miss miles-high thunderheads?? Or try & thread between them?
@scottenglert40836 ай бұрын
@timewa851 Yeah, like you say, my guess is that they tried to thread the needle - but the storms fired up earlier than typical for this area (I think the one that really hit that campground hard was around 1030 a.m. - which is super weird timing for such a strong storm). If they were going to try that, mid-afternoon was not a great choice... To be fair, I think the storms were fairly widely scattered, but the whole day just had that "juiced" feel to it...

Funny how life works sometimes right? Dan you’re out here working tirelessly, even from a hospital bed, doing the lord’s work spreading AQP and literally saving lives. What a beautiful circle of life for your Dr. to be there to help you while being also so heavily engrained in the exact same cause that you’ve made your life’s work. I think I speak for us all when I say, we appreciate you Dan Gryder! And we are so grateful to have you still here with us serving as our GA leader. As we tune in to learn more from you, we all take these valuable lessons back to our communities to share. This is much bigger than YT Analytics. Your impact on GA can’t be measured by subs, likes, views, comments, etc. It’s exponentially more than anything you can put a value on. How do you value saving lives? What is it worth to have your work and life’s mission play such a monumental role in reducing the number of GA fatalities year after year? Sure, there are other important factors that play into this, but they’re not as cool or funny. 😜 To the only man that can keep me up past 10pm on a Sunday, I hope you never lose your sense of humor. And please never lose that Gryder drive that allows you to successfully tackle this layered and nuanced problem we have in GA. Stay humble, stay entertaining, and continue giving us all the tough love that we need. To Dan and everyone else reading this, let’s all move forward with more gratitude and grace. Because everything we know and love can be stripped from us in a split second. Heal up buddy. 🙏🏼 And for my “itty bitty tiny fledgling” KZbin comment, David Bordner, Probable Cause Gang. 😂 Happy 4th of July. #DTSB #ProbableCause #AQP

Possibly saved by an alert air traffic controller! (FAA should give him a $500 bonus! He saved the FAA and NTSB far more money than that, not to mention the lives.) I was a heavy pilot in the Air Force. At night we had to use a precision approach. If there was a GCA (Ground Controlled Approach) PAR available you used the PAR and monitored the ILS also. As a civilian, I always was very careful of my glide-slope at night. I always made sure I had a 600-700 fpm descent rate. Often the job just required a night visual but I was very careful to be on a normal glideslope. Towards the end of my career, we could use an artificial GPS glideslope. Thank you God. That saves lives.

Captain Teelin, who had 225 hours of line flying in a Boeing 727, was in charge of the flight. He, however, was acting both as co-pilot and as check-airman for Captain O'Neill, who was at the controls. Captain O'Neill had received his Boeing 727 rating only eighteen days previously and had only 11½ hours of line flying time in a 727. He had flown a 727 into the Cincinnati Airport one time previously, during the day time. There was evidence that at least one time during his 727 qualification training he experienced difficulty executing "missed approach" technique.

Took a lot interest in that as I grew up in Delhi under the 18R (later it became the 18c) approach and all the planes flew over my house non stop. Now I’m a 28 year Delta employee…..growing up with the planes over my head stuck with me.
