I read 3 days ago a moving company crew dumped a truckload of furniture and appliances on Los Angeles’ blighted Skid Row overnight, giving the items away to anyone who could carry them. The items dumped included couches, a keyboard, a BBQ, a refrigerator, yard furniture and a ping-pong table. Must have felt like X-Mas down there.

It would have cost up to $1000 and most of a day for two workers to take the stuff to the dump and $100 in diesel fuel at California prices so they just dumped it downtown.

So true but in reality it takes more money here in California than anywhere else in the country so that’s part of it BUT again we can’t let those criminal law breakers slide, I’m from the east coast but been here in California for 5 years and in a lot of cities the cost for a very small dilapidated house will shock the hair off the back of your neck…I see homes in San Jose in a very low income looking neighborhood where neighbors got trash & multiple vehicles in the front yard & some on jack stands etc…any it’s homes that are beat up to death & only 1,200 square feet that is online for $800k…no joke , I went to work the very next day showing several of my coworkers who I talk politics & current events with….i was telling the guys that the tiny house I grew up in was the same size & my Dad paid $80k for it back in the day. But people wanna say Oh you paying that much because it’s California but I’m sorry that ain’t right.

I was surprised to see the severity of California's situation. I had always thought New York City was tough, but it pales in comparison. The lack of affordable housing there is evident, and I assume it's largely due to landlord-run apartments. This likely contributes to the homelessness and drug issues. In contrast, New York City has 144,000 units with tenants paying 30% of their income towards rent, even in landlord-run buildings, which might explain the difference in conditions.

Skid Row has been there well over a hundred yrs. Started out w railroad workers who needed lodging in this particular area. Cheap hotels started being constructed for them, then came the missions and churches and now this. It's really hopeless.
