I LOVE intake days!!! I haven't Kimberly lately. Is she ok? That 1st trailer of 13 horses looked pretty good. Sad about the paint mare that was foundered. When first being brought off the trailer, one of the gals called her a good lady and she reacted to that name. Please remember her as "Lady". Thank you all for what you do. Waiting for the next video of the next trailer.

The paint. She is my dream horse. I felt so bad when Troy was trying to get her to move. I could tell he was sad about her too. Crossing her legs over to hold herself up was just the worse I've ever seen. Tawny, I hope you gave her the last act of kindness right away as well as the mule. They were suffering terribly! Thank you to Rick for donating much needed medical supplies to Horse Plus. I know whatever Dr. Gina and Dr. Lydia can get makes their jobs even easier and more efficient. Thank you to the pizza donator! Gotta keep fuel into these hard working people! Jason, I like the way you're filming these "almost lives." It's kind of like when you were at the sale barn. Remember Dr. Lydia, you are performing an act of kindness when you have to make those hard calls. I know and the staff give these babies a lot of love before and during. Something they probably have wanted so badly and did not receive before they got to you. So many people have no idea that horses have close emotions to people, they want to feel loved and cherished. And should a negative thought enter mind, remind yourself of the horror story ending to their life that you averted so their passing was peaceful, not brutal. I don't know if you have been on a killing floor, and to be honest I pray you never have, I was when I was a child and it was a back then humane one as the owner made sure of it, but what I saw, heard and smelled before being rushed away, traumatized me for life. And this is why I am ever so grateful to you and the staff when the last act of kindness is preformed with you. Be Blessed, all of you, Always for the work you do.

Why in the world were you there, on the killing floor, as a child? The killing floor isn't a place for the faint of heart let alone a child.

@@RataPerry It was quite by accident and as a curious child my own fault. My brother in law had to work, there was no way he could get out of it. He was a butcher or a butcher's assistant at that time, I can't remember. An emergency arose that required all my other family members attention so it was just him that could watch me. I was put in a room and told to stay put. However I let myself out when I heard this most horrible noise that scared me. Now you can't blame him or the others as they were all men and he was only in his late teens not used to watching kids at all. The noise scared me so bad and then there was the smell that also upset me, so I started to run full speed and that's when I ended up on the kill floor just as this cow came through the shoot and I say it get killed. My screaming got them all running, but it was to late, I saw the whole thing. And this was the old fashioned way of the kill as this is going back quite a few years. All of them were so sorry and very worried for me but it was just a horrible accident that I saw what I did and as I said, this was a humane kill floor if you can call them that. The owner was quite firm on how the animals were taken from the trucks and put into the shoots. If any man even slapped one for not behaving, they were fired on the spot! So this is why I can relate so well with what Horse Plus is talking about when they talk about the slaughter pipeline. If what I saw was humane and that was a horror, I can only imagine how they go about it in Mexico! So I hope this answers your question as I don't want to go into the detail of what I saw without bringing back trauma upon myself.

That poor paint horse with the founder..it was clear she was walking on her coffin bone..that had rotated until it was almost vertical..the Mule was in such a bad way..safe passage over the 🌈 bridge...run free in that lush pasture...no more pain..Shine Bright..Fly High 🌠🌃✨️🌈😭

As someone who wears hard contacts and who has had a few corneal scratches over the decades that were horribly painful, I can't even imagine the pain that a horse with an eye injury that serious is feeling. Your vet team is exceptional in their skill and kindness to these animals that have suffered for far too long.

Yup. you guys really stuck it to the man. When the auction kicked you all out and told you that you can't.....well you all fired back with a resounding Yes we can. Now you guys are rescuing so many more horses than even before and sucessfully intercepting them before they even get to the auction. Job well done by all of you!!!!!! :)

@@RataPerry Not when the horses are being brought to them before they’re sold at the auction. Some people will buy horses and then sell them to Horse Plus but most bring the horses to them instead of taking them to the auction in the first place. Or at least that’s how I understand it to be. Edit: Plus a lot of these horses would’ve gone back to that same auction or would’ve been taken to another auction, allowing them to make more profits. The fact that the horses’ auction journey has finally ended at Horse Plus means that they cannot continue through that pipeline and provide profits for auctions and auctioneers.

It always makes me feel good for you to be able to relieve these poor, gentle souls of their suffering. I am so happy your facility is able to do all you do for alĺ the horses that come through that gate. Rather, it will give them a quality of life to move on and be loved and treated the way they are so deserving of or end their suffering . May you always be there and continue your wonderful work for every horse you possibly can. I think your buyout program has given you a great way to stop them from going to slaughter. I wish you could still be able to save some auction horses but until that is possible this is the best way to move forward in my opinion. The buyout program has turned out to be a blessing for so many that were heading to the slaughter house, and I am so thankful to see how many horses are actually coming through that front gate to get that 2nd chance to be treated and loved like every horse should be. I have to say that I think you have the very best veterinarian's that you could have employed for this work and your group. I know it took awhile to build up all the great people you have employed and that does voluntary work, that you couldn't ask for any better or trustworthy than you have at this point. I pray that you continue to get all the donations you get to keep things getting better and better. Sorry for such a long comment but I truly love all you do and all the hard work and long hours you put into it to keep moving forward and making a world of difference in all the animals you take in and help. It’s sad to know that the healthier looking horses are often the ones at risk of actually going to slaughter. The sickly, skinny ones don’t have enough meat on them, so instead of taking them to be slaughtered and butchered they’re tossed from one auction to another to make as much money as possible before they finally collapse and die, can’t even move anymore and are then killed, or are pawned off to rescue facilities-but not out of mercy. Most of the time they do it just to avoid the hassle of disposing of the animals, or to get that last chunk of cash. I was happy to see so many horses at such a decent weight this episode, not just because it means they’re not suffering as much but because those are the horses that will be slaughtered for meat. Of course the skinny ones also desperately need to be saved as well and are just as much a victim of the slaughter cycle as the healthier ones. Those humans are heinous to both types of animal.

Name him Pirate. Thank you for dealing with this so fast. He looks like he'll be a really good horse for somebody. I'm not a vet, but even I could see what was going on with the coffin bone in that poor horse. The cheering when the ultrasound showed the mare was pregnant was heartwarming and showed just how much better the new ultrasound is. The old one couldn't sometimes show a late term foal much less one this early on. Thanks Rick for helping with some more equipment. They'll put it to use immediately. Was that song about the blind horse written just for this episode? I tried to find it with no luck. Whispers of hope indeed. Good energy going to that mini.

Looking at the coffin bones on the mare's hooves, I suspect you would be able to see the coffin bone actually poking through if you saw the bottom of her hoof. Dear God. I definitely agree with your decision. Good to know that the enucleation surgery went well. Well done.
