I actually had the tag wrong on that one… the real name is “Heavenly Magical Moments”. That one and Burst Of Interest look similar so I always get them confused and the tag was wrong from last year… I obviously didn’t fix it because I got it wrong again this year 😂.

Are you guys where the flooding happened, looked really bad on the news. Always a pleasure walking the garden with you guys. I didn't see any weeds, only those you pulled. The Japanese beetles hit here late, I did get to enjoy the first Rose blooms. They've taken over every bloom of everything since arriving mid June.

Shelley, could you address your planting technique (specifically coneflowers)…i.e; do you use manure, what fertilizer when planting? My coneflowers just don’t seem to grow well. They stay kind of small, even after 3 years..Do I need to have my soil tested? I would die for coneflowers like yours. TY!

Love my Paul Owen daylilies, but he sold his nursery and isn’t breeding them anymore. They are super hardy in zone 6b. I still have several of his on my wish list. He paid particular attention to the branching, and liked the fruity colors. I like to use plain ones to set off the patterned ones. My favorites of his are Hotta Pinkie, Oy Vey, Soul Custody, and Work It Girl.

Gorgeous gorgeous garden! I controlled my Japanese beetles this year with two lawn applications. I only had to kill about 10 Japanese beetles a day for about a month. It’s usually 100 a day! I have had a lot of slugs and snail problems this year! I think it’s because of the rain here in South Carolina too! I put out shallow plastic dishes and put beer in them.🙌🏼That helped! I have not been able to enjoy my beautiful salvias this year! They have been eating off the blooms! I have them back 3 times! I I can tell there are less and less that I’m catching so maybe I’ll get to see them bloom this time. Third time is a charm!🙌🏼

Love, love the tour! I could listen to you talk about Daylilies all day long. It's funny. I have 3 or 4 Cheyenne Spirit Coneflowers and they have never bloomed yellow! Lol So glad your tree is doing ok. My Daylilies are doing OK except for my King of the Ages which is normally super tall. This year so far the one scape is stunted and the flower bud is short and not doing anything. I need to get in there and see if I can see what's going on. Hopefully it's OK. Tons of rain here all season in Southern Maine. I think that may be why the Monarchs are not here yet. Any cats on your Milkweed yet? Good job on the Hydrangeas Bryan!!

@GuidingGreenThumbs
@GuidingGreenThumbs Жыл бұрын
Some can’t be grown from seed… they are propagated only from dividing so that is part of the issue with finding seeds. Cheyenne spirit is one you can get from seed, Pow wow wild berry and green twister are also grown true to seed. Most hybrids if you collect seeds will only grow the purple native one. 😊

I had some cone flowers that looked like the ones you have that you said insects are eating the petals. I heard that there is a fungal disease called aster yellows that can affect them and spread to other plants by leaf hoppers. I sadly pulled mine out so as to control the disease from spreading. I hope that is not what your cone flower has as there is no remedy for the disease and all your cone flowers are so beautiful.

How do you cross them without putting little baggies over the flower? Do you transfer the pollen as soon as you see the 2 prospective lilys open? And then u dont bag it because maybe it cant be pollinated twice or how does that work? Because all of the pollinators will go and add their own pollen from whichever lily they just came from.
@GuidingGreenThumbs
@GuidingGreenThumbs Жыл бұрын
I don’t bag them. I usually get out to hybridize in the morning before the pollinators are really active. It takes only about 30 min for the plant to “accept” the pollen. The pistol generally sticks much farther out than where the stamens with the pollen are. There are only a select few doubles where the stamens and pistil are pretty close together and that could present a challenge but I’m not worried about those. I do this for fun. 😁

funny story...I ordered a daylily from ebay last year. Diva's Choice frilled pink and yellow. Beautiful. It came to me about a 1/2 inch tall with black roots. They sent a replacement and I planted both just to see what would happen. miracle they both survived.. My first one got buds this year and so excited.. Until I noticed the buds looked skinnier then they should and now they have a red tint. I am 100% sure they sent me the wrong lily.. I think it will open today so who knows what it is going to look like. But not anything close to Divas Choice. Went on ebay and the seller is no longer there.. Figures. Hopefully the one that did not bud this year will be Diva's but I have to wait yet another year in hopes it will bud and blossom. As disappointed as I am all I can do is laugh and say of course it happened to me that out of the 50 plus ebayers I could have bought from it would be a unrealiable one and perhaps a scammer

Yep it bloomed.. A very plan dark red with yellow throat.. It's ok but nothing like I wanted and nothing special that I would have said I wanted it my garden. It will probably stay but will be seen forever as the disappointing lily. Pray the second one is not this lily. If it is I will then be giving it to someone

eBay is known for that! I would def stick with reliable and reputable sellers. There are so many people who do that and close up shop and since it takes a year usually for them to bloom, it’s almost a foolproof scam. Sorry that happened!

@@GuidingGreenThumbs Thank you I had no idea I could be scammed . I had bought 5 peach dayllies from an ebayer and everything went fine. So I had no idea this issue could be a problem.. I do plan on hopefully buying some from a daylily farm in my state of michigan about 2 hours away next year. Excited about that. This was just a lesson learn moment for me. luckly I only spent $22 dollars and we forced them to send a second one free of charge.. So at least money wise I cant complain too much over it

How does one actually pollinate the daylilly flower to produce a pollinated seed pod??

Can comfrey be grown from it's seeds? If so do you have any you would sell? Put me down for seeds this year if you do a give away please.

This one is very easy to grow from division! It grows the plain green invasive-y one from seed. 🥲 it won’t grow new ones true to the variegated variety unfortunately.

This old house has a video on how to cable a split tree (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWOpaHp3rJd-erM). Laura from Garden Answer had a tree split and had to do it for one of their trees. Your could use a much smaller device for your tree.
