I just found your site. I'm in Sydney. I really like how you explain things simply and what you've done to fix things. 👍

Apparently peppermint is a deterrent for rats/mice because they can't smell the other stuff growing amongst the peppermint. I'm planning on growing tomatoes amongst peppermint and basil as a deterrent for tomato hornworms.

Just be careful to put the peppermint in a pot and not in the ground or it will take over your garden - grows like a weed!

Hey, I have just found your channel. I live is country Victoria. Our nursery is closer than any Bunnings store! And they are amazing. The Great Escape Garden Centre have helped me out a lot! But for my 2 cents, you do the best with what you have. If you can only get things from Bunnings, then get things from Bunnings! You grow your own! I grow my own, others grow their own. Every journey is different but our end goals are the same. For those getting cross at you for shopping at Bunnings…maybe it isn’t big stores that are the problem…maybe it’s time we all support each other however we are doing things. Let’s not force our opinions and beliefs on others. We all have a choice in life, choose kindness. Now I am off to watch some more of these videos and get some inspiration and learn some things!

Thanks for your note Libby! like you, I love little nurseries! I do also shop at Bunnings as you’ve discovered. With 3 kids in tow sometimes I just need a quick solution. My favourite is currently a nursery in Werribee that I order online from. Hope your garden is bringing you joy ☺️

I just had to cover heaps of the garden in covers … I came out yesterday and the possums ate everything 😢.. I’m glad they are full but my poor plant 😊 . That’s what I love about gardens everyday is something different. And i didn’t think about the food covering that’s a great idea xxx

What sorts of covers have you used? Netting? I'm planning to put a new bed in up the back soon but want to make sure it's possum proof!

I think beans add nitrogen as a chop and drop, they don’t add while growing. Love your show :)

You might enjoy having a read up about them - my understanding is it's definitely while growing! "Garden crops, such as peas and beans, are unique plants that can establish a nitrogen fertilizer factory in their roots. Members of the legume family develop a symbiotic relationship with Rhizobia bacteria that operate the nitrogen factory."

I grew brocolletti, yes very tough, I must have left it too long, not planting again.

Did you try boiling it before frying it? Takes away a lot of the bitterness and toughness! Definitely not one of my favourites though.

Fair call! Would love to find one nearby, my favourite nurseries are all a fair drive away which is tricky with the little kids!

My favourite store I have supported others in the past but Bunnings offers more and is better prices for what I buy not just garden things

Can u advice when to start planting for summer in Mel. Also, what potting mix do you use for planting seedlings / seeds. Thanks
@ChristieCooper

Good question - lots of people are starting now! The main thing is to make sure it’s after the last frost. I’ll be starting many of mine indoors over the next few weeks.

Re potting mix - most important thing is that you mix in plenty of compost, either home made or store bought. If you’re growing in pots, premium potting mix from the nursary mixed in with plenty of compost should be a good start.
