I too loved Strange Sally Diamond, for all the reasons you stated. I just finished another of Nugent's books today, "Little Cruelties." OMG, another 5 star read! I don't think I know of another thriller author who creates such absolutely memorable characters. And in Little Cruelties, we get three unique main characters. I put the book down earlier today, stared into space for a minute and said, "Wow," out loud. If you haven't read it, I promise you will love it.

Okay, so I started Little Cruelties a while back and I didn’t immediately get hooked. I think the male POV threw me off. Maybe I should give it another shot.

A Short Stay In Hell is such an amazing thing. It’s been haunting me ever since I read it. Also, I don’t do ratings, but if I did, I have no idea how I’d rate it. Its impact comes from things that are very hard to isolate. It’s like the definition of a whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

I had been wanting to read Our Wives Under the Sea because the cover was gorgeous and the plot sounded right up my alley, but I actually DNF’d it @ 60%. The writing was EXCELLENT and so elegant, but I found that the story moved at a glacial pace. I also thought there were so many scenes and dialogues that didn’t lead anywhere. I loveeddddd the writing, but I wished the story itself matched that greatness

I really enjoyed The Odds! I’m not one of those people that has “luck”. I never win giveaways, raffles, etc. if I was one of those people who did have strokes of luck, I would play those games in a heartbeat!

Mary and Our Wives Under the Sea were some of my best horror reads this year too! I know what you mean about the writing in OWUtS, its very pretty--it edges more on the literary than the horror side, which I enjoy a lot. I'm also excited for Nat Cassidy's new book coming out, def going to pick it up this fall.

I wasn't thrilled with The Only One Left. The story was repeated in nauseum throughout and the ending was "twist after twist" like an appeasing checklist was being achieved. I like your label for his books though 😁

Liz Nugent's last two books including Strange Sally Diamond were such a disappointments for me because her first three books were amazing, so dark and twisty! Strange Sally Diamond was a very boring and predictable read and I find her so annoying and insufferable as a character!
