Not even exaggerating I have never seen an anime lack of animation to this degree before. Like we aren't even getting simple leg movements in a lot of these scenes. Looking like an ice skating ring with the amount of times characters are just sliding across the field. U-20 has to be decent at least, and probably at the most, with the amount of corner cutting going on. The team knows they gotta lock in for the u-20, because if they give us current animation for that match, it might be considered treason.

They had like 2 years for this and on top of that Blue Lock exploded like crazy when it came out so I find it hard to believe that they were lacking in the money department. If anything season 1 should have been worse because Blue Lock wasn't as massive as it is now. It really just feels like these anime producers are all trying to usher in a new age of CGI but it looks absolutely awful compared to real animation. Hopefully they take the feedback from the entire fanbase saying it's bad and trash the idea in the future. Not that CGI overall is bad but the way they are using it is terrible.

It's not about budget. It's about time that the animators WERE NOT GIVEN. Thinking about how quickly this season came out is crazy. Typically you need to wait a year and a half to two and a half years for a healthy production of an anime season to be made, but my guess is the studio saw how well the first season did and immediately rushed the 2nd one out the door. To quote animeajay if you jire Gordon Ramsay to make you a meal but only give him one minute to make it, the meal still won't be good.

I can understand what he's saying about blue lock animation and with the stills and the frame, it's like no animation put into it and for the voice actor of isagi (Japanese) saying the animation is put into the u-20 conclusion of the arc, it will hurt the season in a way, sure it's great but i feel like it will hurt the animation, the slime animation was great, but blue lock animation in season 1 was good, the manga sales was pretty great, but this might hurt the animation quality if they decide to put everything into the u-20 final conclusion, but i will continue to watch this because i'm hooked on blue lock

I think the issue is just lack of movement and impact Isagi's goal in that match was a pretty important moment of his growth but the anime doesn't put impact on it so it just feels normal,i fr had more hype seeing goals in the manga than the anime

Somehow, I saw this coming years ago. The amount of dialog that's in a single match from this point forward is actually insane. It works in manga format, but what do we expect the animators to do when a whole episode is basically just one guy thinking for minutes unend just to pass a ball... You either cut a lot of that dialog, or somehow make it a post-game discussion between teammates or maybe Ego asks them questions or something... So we get a full match with the necessary dialog, and the rest is religated to post-game info dump OR you stay faithful to the source material, and well... This is how it turns out unfortunately.

Things were much simply, the cast was much tighter, but now, almost every other player on the field is just as "important" as Bachira was in season 1. The higher up the ranks Isagi goes, the more he and others around him will grow their "ego weapons" which needs to happen mid play, meaning we will be spending more time getting the players' thought processes than the actual game. With Basketball or volleyball, it's easier to manage because there's lesser number of players, the pitch is considerably smaller, the time per half or quarter is shorter which means there's breaks in between matches where the reader or watcher can breathe a little, and generally, the techniques explored aren't as complex so it's easier to explain. I love the manga for how in-depth it gets, but I also recognize that the anime can't do anything around that. Even if the players aren't still images, they'd just be running for like 2 minutes straight onscreen while you listen to their thoughts. Basically, the dialog in Blue Lock is like unskippable ads, you only get to like 1 or 2 actions after a lengthy info dump and I don't think there's a great way to adapt it. Maybe there is, but it'd still be just as problematic even with fluid animation.

@@jerrytpl I'm with you. Blue Lock's writing simply cannot allow it. Other such manga like Baki or Record of Ragnarok also run into the same problem, where there are like 3 different bystanders giving their input + the narrator and the fighters own thoughts as well. Baki uses flashbacks mid battle to build up a move, one moment a character is punching at mach speed, the next moment there's a flashback to some physicist explaining why so and so would happen if a human moved that fast. It prevents the still image problem in that way, so after everything is said, we go right back into the mostly fluid action. Record of Ragnarok also does flashbacks mid fight to build up the characters and then it's just straight boxing. I think it's a recipe that has been tested for manga that flow like that in anticipation for their anime to flow better, but Blue Lock doesn't use that formula very often so some matches just wouldn't be visually appealing unless the add filler content where nothing significant happens in-between a long info dump. But that would make episodes twice as long, so we'd be getting half a season's worth of actual content in a season. It's just a sad situation for the anime. Do you really believe that the U-20 match will be any different? Remember just how much Rin, Isagi and Sae and those guys talk mid-run. I've seen people assume that they saved the budget for that match, I think people underestimate how difficult Blue from this point forward will be difficult to animate compared to season 1 which was just the tutorial stages.
