Flickspoo A boom mic is a mic on a stick that is used mostly in movies and tv shows for the actors voices as they can't use mic packs as you'd see them.

Flickspoo You literally asked what a boom mic does. Your replies don't make any sense. If you're asking the difference between using a boom and a pack mic, the boom is generally used to pick up all sound, usually from multiple people, at the same time on the same track. Mic packs are easier and better capturing voices from an individual. If you look at each of them they all have fluffy black things on them. That's the mics with wind guards on them. Boom mics also use these but they don't have the bodies of the people to create further protection and they also generally are much further away from the people.
