Even though freedom doesn't have a reputation as a warmonger ideology, there is a strategy you can use that's very effective. You need to get industrialization fast, then hook up coal and build three factories ASAP. You choose freedom, and if you time it right then you quickly get the level 2 ideology which instantly provides six free units of Great war tier infantry. You then use that infantry to go on a blitz against your enemies, and it's especially powerful if they don't have tech parity.
@janostoth4315 Жыл бұрын
This is true. And keep in mind, that these 6 free units mean, that "6 units cost basically no upkeep", which remains later, when the original 6 foreign legion units already died. Which means, you can have a bigger army for the same upkeep. Additionally, that perk that gives +33% Fighting strength to the cities is meaningful. And the faster unit production is useful too. In the first years as I played Civ 5, I was ignoring Tourism almost totally. Later I have discovered, that tourism is far more powerful, than I thought AND with the Ideology Freedom you get a powerful upgrade to tourism, what is a kind of special "battle field" in the game. (Mainly, because if you get much more tourism than your enemies got and you got not the same ideology, you can secure the happiness in your country and decrease the happiness in the hostile country and less happiness means less towns, less towns means less money (and influence in the world congress with sanctioning power), less money is less army units.) I usually choosing Order, sometimes Autocracy but lately for fun, I take freedom and I must say, all 3 ideologies are pretty similar in end effect. They lead to the same goal over a different path. Freedom is minimal less good for Fighting, than the other 2 ideologies.

I've recently gone back to playing civ 5 with mods to increase the base happiness of the buildings because I just enjoy Civ 5 with an easier happiness system (or removing it completely) to civ 6 in general. I like the districting and seeing wonders placed on a map is cool and all but I just like Civ 5 more.

There seems to be something major missing here. Every time I pick an ideology, my citizenry goes into rebellion and tells me I've chosen the wrong one. It seems to me like you actually have no choice and you need to match what your citizenry wants or you can suffer about 20 discontent, need to change ideology anyway and lose all your tenets. This happens to me in every game. I always pick the wrong ideology according to my people, to such an extent that I go from a winning to a losing game position. So I've been trying to find advice on to know which ideology your people want before making the choice, but this information doesn't seem to exist?
@henrikfitch401710 ай бұрын
Pretty sure it depends on your culture (or tourism) and the culture (or tourism, I forgot exactly which one) that other ideologies are picking. If you pick the same as major culture powers you won't have this issue
@SirAntoniousBlock6 ай бұрын
It's because your culture is too weak, at the higher levels you need a lot of happiness generation to fend off the influence of other cultures.

Unless you really know what you're doing, you shouldn't be "rushing" cities. When you settle your capitol, open it and go to citizen management. Set it to "Production focus" and then view your available tiles. Lock the tile that provides the most food (this is usually a wheat, lake, or banana tile if you have one in your city). Your build order (what you produce in your city) should almost always be: Scout, Scout, Monument/Shrine/Worker/Granary (this depends on a few things, but any one will probably be safe). When you population grows, go into your city and lock another tile that offers high food when worked. After you get 3-5 population in your city, start producing Settlers. Your Warrior and Scout should be looking around for City States, other civs, and good land to settle. It might be worth leaving a unit to defend an area you want to settle if you are worried about other civs coming to take that area for themselves. When you choose Settler, your city will stop growing. This means the food tiles that don't provide Production will be worthless. Instead, reset your tiles and lock all the ones that offer the most production (mines, mining resources, etc.). Typically, you'll want to only produce Settlers until you have all the cities you want. You'll probably want at least 3 cities. If you aren't opening the Liberty social policy, I'd settle 5 or less cities. Each city should be within a few tiles of at least 1 existing city (I'd suggest within 8 tiles, they will be hard to defend early game especially before roads if they come under attack). Each city should have at least 1 luxury resource in its workable borders (3 tiles) and offer something beyond being another city. This could be high production, food, or semi-situational (for example if you settle a city in a lot of desert with the intent of building Petra, this city should not rely on Petra in order to be a useful city, it should stand on its own and only be better if you get Petra). You should try to keep a Scout or Warrior with your Settler to prevent it from being taken by Barbarians or other civs, if it is taken that is a huge loss and can set you back a ton. Overall, you should be thinking the same way when settling new cities as you do when settling your capitol. FilthyRobot has a very intensive guide to playing Civ V that I'd recommend watching.

Whenever I play I adopt an ideology and within a short period of time my civ is profoundly unhappy. It has something to do with the culture of another civ with a different ideology. I confess I dont bother much with tourism and culture. I have never seen a good explanation for what happens and how to avoid it. I just give up. I've tried building some travel and culture. Ive tried swapping to the ideology that my society claims they want. None of it works.

I swear by gunboat diplomacy, I honestly think it’s a little over powered, you just build a large navy and every city state in the map is afraid of you and you eventually ally every city state and the world Congress just becomes you get what you want because you have all the votes. I don’t know if in multiplayer games if it’s more balanced, but in single player I’d say it’s near over powered.
@EliteDarkLordman Жыл бұрын
City state related strats are nerfed in multiplayer (people arent stupid and will start killing your CS allies/allying and then warring you if you’re going around collecting them all) but in SP i agree gunboat can be very good if you’ve got the army. But, if youve got the army, might as well use it and get a dominatioj victory 😅

How can i force people to change their ideologies?!
@JumboPixel2 жыл бұрын
You can't. More prevalent ideologies will exert pressure (largely unhappiness) on minority ideologies though.
@MorFamFun2 жыл бұрын
@@JumboPixel Is the pressure determined by your tourism? or overall culture level? My friend and I often pick different ideologies when we play together and maintaining the higher popular opinion is obviously important/ our goal but we're not sure what all, if not what thing directly effects its influence over other civs ideologies.
@m.a.sherif68782 жыл бұрын
You can force people to change their ideologies using diplomacy. First you need to control the game by winning all the city states then ban all the luxury resources that they have, this will generate a lot of unhappiness for your enemies and cause civil unrest or revolutionary wave in which they will eventually change their ideologies. It’s a bit hard to do and will take a lot of time, but it’s doable.
@frisianmouve2 жыл бұрын
If you have a lot of tourism and a lot of city states it's doable. With a lot of votes you can choose your world ideology making every empire that doesn't follow that ideology unhappy and lots of tourism makes them unhappy as well. If they're about -20 unhappiness they can have a revolution and with this you force them to adopt your ideology. If that's not enough you can ban their luxury resources as well
@m.a.sherif68782 жыл бұрын
@@frisianmouve yeah that's also true you can choose the world ideology. Don't know how I forgot about that lol. You can also build a lot of culture from the beginning of the game that will also help. When it really bothers me at the end I use IGE and just add a lot of culture for myself, it removes any unhappiness I have from ideological influence.
