“Jump Billy” is a new song by Angeline Morrison about Billy Waters (d.1823), the Black London street performer who was formerly enslaved in America, and was also an able seaman in the British Royal Navy.
The Sorrow Songs Band here perform the song live at the book launch of Dr Mary L Shannon’s new scholarly work about his life, “Billy Waters is Dancing” (Yale University Press).
Keeping the spirit of Billy Waters alive is a great honour.
Vocals - Angeline Morrison
Violin - Hamilton Gross
