not quite! that's the vt389 version that ran at twice the resolution. but for the most part yeah it's the same thing. vt389 speeds up the music for some reason though

The chip used in these famiclones enables 16/32 bit (forgot which) audio and visual processing but still only has 8 bits for the actual programming

That’s the placeholder level that loads by default if it can’t find anything, I’m pretty sure. A wild guess is that the game has more memory space and doesn’t just load garbage data when looking at the part of memory where it would be, though the enemy placement suggests that it’s still doing that a little because it typically doesn’t have any enemies

I don't think it's that strange considering the minus world is also different in the FDS version. The portion of code that the minus world pulls from was modified in some way, so the level that gets loaded is different.

so it's actually the other way around! for some reason when using its 512x480 resolution mode (which is used by most consoles), vt369's audio runs super fast. this same phenomenon isn't seen on handhelds since those still run in 256x240 mode. some games that were built specifically for consoles seemingly account for this by slowing down the music, but ones that appeared on both handhelds and consoles (like Jumper here) play too fast on consoles
