i just recently understood the hiearchy at the AD. the manager makes the final call on who gets "the call", but your personal salesrep is an advocate for you and tries to persuade the manager in your favor

I wanted a Pepsi for my retirement. I emailed a major AD in New York City and he responded and offered to meet. I emailed back and said I bought a diamond dialed Movado from his store years ago and asked when was convenient to meet. No response. I think I may just buy something else. Rolex sells watches at $10,000 retail and "dealers" sell the same watch for 25k. So how do the "dealers get them? Obviously from the ADs. I think having to beg any company for a product is just ridiculous. A wait list that is a year or sometimes even 2 years is absurd. I actually hope that enough of us just get disgusted and tired of the games. I kind of hope the market prices continue to crash. Perhaps if the market price dies and I hope it drops below retail and then the ADs will have to call and beg is to buy and we can say, oh perhaps I will buy it in a year let me put you on my list. The entire situation is tragic. Hey Rolex how about making enough of these to meet demand. I mean they are mass produced anyway.

I find it interesting how many years ago you could walk in and buy any Rolex. Now you have to completely suck up and throw your dignity out to hope to get a Rolex. Can’t imagine production would go down over the years especially considering Rolex is a mass produced assembly line watch. I heard Rolex actually told Cosc to quit publishing the number of watches from them that they are certifying. And that number way back then was over 800k……imagine what it would be now. Rolex have some nice models but to me nowadays, they are no longer about horology but a name brand like Superior or Gucci.

Number one rule of watch collecting, never never never sell your watch, specially a Rolex. Just enjoy the watch as much as you can and save your money for next dream watch. It’s perfectly normal to get tired of a watch, that’s why Rolex give you many options. 🥕🥕🥕🥕🐇

Great advice esp on the gold piece Mark. People do not understand what a magnet it is:Scratches, thieves and you are so aware of it all the time. Guy number 1 just needs to buy more jewellery. Maybe that big diamond ring for the wedding

Going to your AD for servicing watches, reconditioning a diamond ring, buying straps and other small accessories is a great way to build a relationship. It shows the AD that you want them to have all your watch related business and that you’re not only using them to get your hands on a hard to get watch. They respect that more than placing a next order for a Rolex professional model. For the AD it’s not always about the money, they’ll sell these watches no problem anyway.

We have a specialist over here in the UK, who can restore a Rolex to its original finish. Many interesting before shots of failed polishing by inexperienced people. Rolex obviously offers polishing, but the problem is they overdo it and the lugs get smaller. This specialist can laser weld and restore the original shape. Now having said that: of course it would be better to never have started on that polishing journey. I like patina, it tells you about the journey. It might be a bit different if the watch sustained damage caused by an accident (maybe motorcycle) and can’t be worn without restoring it first. Otherwise: polishing means to remove material and it doesn’t grow back...

In my group we consider that a Boomer brand and would be embarrassed to wear something so flashy. Everybody here tends to favor Khaki field, G-Shock and of course the iWatch. We are tech guys primarily. Many of us think it's foolish to pay over 2k for a steel watch but we recognize it's their money.

Never kissed any of AD's asses. Just told them what I want and told them Id buy more and I got everything from stainless steel to platinum. Stop making this so damn complicated. BTW the Rolex AD's cater to those with a large buying history. Nothing else matters.

Too much talk about bull...t. If you have a good relationship with a guy who trusts you things are very easy. I was licking asses for 2 years and nothing. After I met a very distinguished gentleman and he sold me two hardcore Rollies. There is no template for it.

Can you really call it a retail purchase when you have to buy $10,000 in jewelry to get it? Grey market is perfectly legit if you get tired of playing that game. I purchased a Pepsi and a Sub date this year just before the prices jumped this last time and I love wearing them instead of drooling about someday-maybe wearing them. I now have two great grail pieces worth more than I paid and no depreciated jewelry to sit in the drawer. Win-win.
