Actually San Juan is not the first settlement in PR there San German and there used to be a small settelment in what now is Bayamón that was called la villa de Caparra but it was too far inland and transportacion was hard so they moved it to what is now old San Juan

If you want to find nice small places like the one you stayed in for 50 a night, you have to stay in Isabela and places down where west side of the island. You can find bungalows right on the beach for that price per night. San Juan and the places that are right next to it are the most expensive you can stay in the Island. Look at this one for instance, it's only $65 in the off season. It's not the most amazing looking inside, but it's walking distance to one of the best beaches on the lsland. www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p1536835vb

@@JumpingPlaces I use to work at the hotel you passed next to where you grabbed the boat to Guilligan's Island. Maybe you stayed there. At the moment Ponce is not at its best, unfortunately! However, needless to say, it is still beautiful. Hurricane María really beat the hell out of us! Let's hope next time you come to Ponce, you can see it in all it's splendor. Cool, I've been there about 9 times. I love it . I never stay in the tourist areas. Rent a car and explore. I've driven almost the entire island. Lots to see and the food is amazing and cheap.....away from the tourist spots. ALSO, What's the song playing at 3:05???

@@atlazking1986 We were just there and we rented a Jeep for a week for $300. The price for a full size car was about $30 less. There are many places that you can rent a car for a day or two.

Been there twice but got stuck in san juan for three months.got a job as a bar back and had the funnest time in my life.the owner of the bar was from san juan and he bought me a plane ticket back to the states.great guy.

At night there will be some people at the bottom of those first set of stairs and you have to ask for permission to go into la perla so unless you have friends or family that live there I suggest you not go in there at night. Just my opinion good luck.

Diana Garcia Camacho .....diana that is not true. At night is the same as it is during the day. You are using the reputation that la perla has 50 years ago which was also not true. I never lived in la perla but everytime i went to san juan which was often, i did walk thru la perla....no problem at all.

Next time you should definitely try using airbnb for a nice cheaper place to stay and also go outside of tourist areas to find the good authentic food for less money.

El jibarito use to be less known and less expensive, but the two best places as far as price are cafe manolin or cafeteria mallorca. But there are Burger Kings and other chain restaurants around.

very nice video! i live in la perla and everybody is welcome.best day to visit is sunday ,very cultural flow,best nigth is saturdays.old san juan is full of bars and restaurants to hang out at night . El jibarito is the best local restaurant for me, best "plato navideno" y " trifongo con salsa de ajo" in town. Callejon de la Tanca on sundays after noon is the best place to hang,local live music ,salsa,boma y plena,local food and beers and "alcapurrias"

I leave the day of the hurricane to my partner apartment in isla verde and was an error,the apartment was left without windows or doors that were all glass and we have to spend the hurricane in the hallway with all the neighbors. Nothing happened in my house in la Perla and I’m still living there. Next time u coming to PR let me know so u can give u a walking tour in LP 😉

I would not call La Perla a slum. I have been there a few times and people were nice and even helped me find historical sites in the neighborhood. I have lived in worse neighborhoods in the Houston and Dallas Texas.

Puerto Rico reminds me of Cuba. Though regerally speaking, the buildings are in much better condition. Not that Cuba is "ugly." No. It's beautiful too. But the infrastructure is just better in Puerto Rico. Everything seems well tended.

Just watched your video. It was pretty good until you referred to La Perla as a "slum". They are poorer people in San Juan, who are economically challenged; same thing that you can probably find in your hometown.

Those are some luxury looking slums. Lol. Not saying they aren't dangerous by any means. But the SCARY slums I've been to were in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In the mean streets where nobody's smilin. 100

Well if you look online every single site refers to it as a shanty town, so not sure what the issue is here. Not being disrespectful, just stating what it is...

Thank you Real Tahj. I agree with you wholeheartedly. You don't go to another country as a visitor and INSULT the residents of the community. Everyone who resides in La Perla isn't a criminal. They have economic challenges, same as most cities in the world. Jumping Places should be mindful of the words he uses, regardless of how others online define it.

Im shock you was able to record in la perla . Yet alone walk through without anybody robbing you .. unfortunately back in the days nobody was allow in la perla if you didn’t live or knew someone there bc of the drug trafficking... what a blessing 🙏🏼
