Before you get to the main tourist dirt road where all those shops & beach clubs are, there's a road to the left you turn down that has a sign that says National Parque. Its public beach entrances.

Mexico is beautiful. We’ve never stayed at a resort, tend to avoid those places because generally finding your own way result it the trip being way less expensive, supporting local business, and deeper cultural experiences. It’s difficult to fathom that the locals who were born, raised, and work there can’t have access to their own white sand beaches.
@JumpingPlaces3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was honestly shocked at how impossible it was to get on a public beach, sad for the locals for sure!

@@JumpingPlaces I don't think you inform your self to well when you are in some places. And it looks like you are misinformed and that shows in your videos and it's also misinformation to your viewers. You missed many places in Tulum. You really don't explore much of the culture in Mexico. In that part of Mexico it would be the Mayan communities. The beaches in Mexico are not private and if they tell you that's incorrect. Just let the beach club know you are going to the beach that's all. Free access no fee.

Good news is that the current government has taken good measures (such as huge fines) to avoid hotels and resorts deniying beach acess to the locals. Some still do but those are less and less common.

The two times I was in Tulum, in 1991 and 1992, this was not the case. The locals did have access to their own pristine beaches and coral reefs. I imagine that this is no longer the case?

Thanks for the reply, I was on that beach Wednesday morning, Jan 20th. Due to the somewhat stormy weather, there were only a few people there. For the first two days I stayed at an Air property in town across from the food market and taco stands. For the next three nights, I stayed at Barria Negro, which is a bit south of town. Nice place, great large pool and yard area, big modern rooms. Cost me @bout $50. Not many people there. The best part was its proximity across the street from Gypsea Market - an organic food store and wine shop. There was also a nice cafe bakery in this complex, a wine shop/cafe, and a work shared space called Digital Jungle. Also, a short bike ride away on 307 were two decent cenotes - Escondido and Christina.

You don't need to go to a beachclub to get access to the beach. When I was there October - November me and my friends would just go through the entrance of the beach club and straight to the beach. Don't talk to reception or anyone just walk straight through the restaurant and to the beach. However if you don't want to pay a lot of money I would recommend Akiin beach club it was our favorite spot for affordable drinks and food right on the beach!

Public access to beaches in most countries are supposed to be protected by law but a lot of places seem to completely disregard the law due to corruption. I am glad you brought up this extremely important issue in your review which is starting to become an epidemic in a lot of places because it not only effects the tourists but also the locals. I also encourage others when leaving a review on other sites to reflect this.

Excellent video! You're right, Tulum IS expensive and they have made it more difficult to reach the public beaches there. I don't believe you made it to the main public beach though, Playa Paraiso.. it's really nice and far less 'bourgeois' than the main hotel zone. Oh, Playa Del Carmen is also another place that also has excellent access to public beaches, its one of the best things about that overly-touristic city (I know, I lived there for four years). Looking forward to your continuing Mexican travels!

@@lolal3853 of course you're correct but as we saw in that video, some resorts will try to break that rule like the security guard who asked them to leave what in fact is a public beach. Soliman Bay near Tulum is also a secured community with a guard at the end of the road who won't give access to people that aren't staying in the beautiful villas there as well, I'm sure that's not legal either. @@JumpingPlaces I think $1,300 USD per night is on the CHEAPER end there (and VERY oversimplified, with no air conditioning, no wi-fi signal, or even ELECTRICITY in all of their "exposed" suites.) Only mosquito nets and candle light after dark to keep a very "natural, rustic" vibe/theme WITHOUT those basic amenities, of course. (Let the rich blow their money on that. Most visitors go there to book dinner reservations and/or enjoy a drink and explore the comfortable lounge/tropical grounds.)

@@SchmoopsAdventures Yeah, I'm everywhere typing the same thing lol.... Not hating on @Jumping Places but kinda not informed or misinformed and to the viewers too. They need to explore more and explore a bit more of the culture and traditions in Mexico. And explore more places in the area, lots to see and do.

@@oscarlugo8761 it’s definitely not for everyone however the eco resort concept is very popular in Tulum.
