JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade: Haunted Island is an educational game created by Knowledge Adventure. It was created in December 2, 1996. However, this game was discontinued in 2000. This game was a personal computer game in Knowledge Adventure's JumpStart series of educational software intended, as the title indicates, to teach a fourth grade curriculum. This version of the game was released in 1996, but was retired from the line in 2000 and replaced with JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade: Sapphire Falls, presumably due to it being deemed too scary for an educational game, but not for Halloween! LOL

I Would definetly finish it, as i would brave the dangers walking around but the ending had to be rewritten and the leveling indicator is needed/complete with a LAPTOP as the Inventory, and Map (Levered Action Portable Truth Overview Protector)

The second the candle mechanic was described to me, I was too frightened to play it, LOL. I was super frightened of the witch getting me. Now that I'm older, and brave enough to watch walkthroughs, I would've been disappointed by how abruptly it ends. It acts like you're gonna have some ultimate showdown with the witch (a final test of everything you learned on the island, perhaps?), and instead she just flies out the window and everyone declares the day saved. What a cop out. XD

I got this when I was a kid and I was a bit traumatized to be honest haha. To think that I've been playing Resident Evil, Silent Hill and other horror RPG games at that time as well but this one takes the cake. The way they're drawn, their texture, the music, the voice... is just odd. The fact that I don't have any power to physically beat the monsters up is mostly why it's scarier than the rest. You need to really think and the pressure of time limits are horrible. :( Not to mention I'm from Asia so American history part always effed me up!

Yes!! Something about the slow way the bat talks and the maze-like world where anything could pop up--this game lingered in my brain for years!!! And the timed games were terrifying!

I freaking LOVED this game! My favorite was the one where you grew the plants. That ghost that popped up at you would scare me everytime lol! It took me FOREVER to beat the game when I was a kid. Now I could probably beat it in a couple of hours. After watching this, I'm going to watch Jumpstart 3rd and 5th grade! EDIT: For some reason, when I was a kid, I always used to think if your candle went out that the ghost will kill you. Now I know that he just puts you in the maze. But the ANXIETY I felt when I thought that was REAL!!!

+JaDangerz You know what's ironic about him being a ghost? His voice actor is dead.That's right. Tony Pope's been dead for years. He voiced a lot of JumpStart characters. Mr. Hopsalot from JumpStart Kindergarten, Frankie from JumpStart 1st Grade, and Edison from JumpStart 2nd Grade, just to name a few. If I'm not mistaken, he did all the male voices in this game, while Jeannie Elias did all the female voices.Tony Pope, 1947-2004, May he rest in peace.

I guess Jumpstart regretted making 4th Grade: Haunted Island after realizing it was too scary for kids. So, they try so hard to make people forget it exists by discontinuing it and replacing it with another 4th-grade game. Even make sure to erase it from continuity so other Jumpstart characters never mention or remember Haunted Island.

I remember playing this game when I was kid. I was determined to beat it. Unfortunately I only had 30 damn minutes and other kids were relentless in making sure you don't go over, even try to bump you off early. Man was that a savage time at the library. It was years later they upgraded to a program that timed you and no amount of tricking that your time was up would work because we can see how much we had left. Sadly the game was gone by then. T.T

I was a Goosebumps kid and I loved this game in aesthetic, but I never finished it because there were certain minigames I just couldn't do in fourth grade, and when I tried to find it again I was just given the other, non-spooky Jumpstart 4th grade game. It's the only Jumpstart game I ever had a problem with, and now seeing how many of these are *timed,* I totally understand why Kid!me had so much trouble. Poor coordination and timer anxiety are both struggles that followed me to adulthood.

I consider this game to be awesome and really cool...but I'm still not going to allow my future kids to play it after dinner. Everyone has a limit when it comes to scary stuff after all, and it's better to discover that limit during the day rather than at evening/night. That said, my favorite details about the game: at least two characters being based on comedians (Flap the Bat - Peter Lorre, Graveyard Ghost - Rodney Dangerfield/WC Fields), and the creativity of the monsters. I hate Ms. Grunkle for turning the kids into monsters, but I love the team behind this game for not settling for only classic monsters and deciding to use their imagination with a few of them instead. Bonus points for the shot needle-headed monster and the tire-headed monster. Oh, about the Graveyard Ghost: I read that he's supposed to reference Rodney Dangerfield, but honestly whenever he speaks the first person I think of is WC Fields. That's actually a missed opportunity there: it would've been hilarious if that particular ghost had made a reference to pool (the game WC was often shown playing in his films), or to a ventriloquist dummy named Charlie McCarthy (who was frequently WC's 'foe' on radio, in film, and even in at least one theatrical cartoon). WC was also known as an alcoholic, but that would've been a VERY inappropriate reference in a kid's game.

lots of nostalgia. i would always try to draw the monsters and the kids because I liked how they transformed into a monster that resembled them. I also remember hating that plant growing one because it was time-consuming and confusing. I forgot how it worked on the higher levels actually.

I USED to have this game on 💿-ROM until my parents and I donated it to charity to help needy 4th graders. It was my inspirational metaphor for a fear of Halloween that I had when I was a child. OMG!
