Man, I'm so glad I have Jumpstart 3rd - 5th grade, those three are my favorites and knowing it got replaced by that family friendly version (I liked walking around even though I was paranoid of getting jumpscared by the ghost lol, the foot steps sounds are ASMR to me lol) because it was mildly scary is really sad. It's a huge shame.

Yes! I used to have that Haunting game back when I was little. One of my first ever trauma experiences. It scared me so much,but my parents convinced me that it was just a "Halloween special game",and because I did'nt understand,I cried. I ended up having nightmares about this game,dreaming I was in there in the game trapped,with the teacher threatening me. We ended up selling the game,because of the trauma. Years later,I tried to recall the name of that game,to no avail. I thought that maybe all of this was a fever dream and that the game never existed. Here I am,finally seeing the game as I remembered and it brings me back bad memories.

I remember playing this game in the summer before 4th grade and actually having bad dreams about the haunted Pre-K area (we had all the games up to 4th grade). Flap's "your yields did not meet the goal, try again" is drilled into my head permanently haha. Great video, very high quality for your subscriber count. Hopefully you'll cover the other Jump start games before 3rd grade and 4th grade someday!

You lucky if you never played this game. It scarred too many kids. 30 years old and i still have nightmare once a year about it. Played this game 2 years 2 early. I was in 2nd grade playing a scarry 4h grade game.

I’ve never played Haunted Island when I was a kid, but one part of Carmen Sandiego Word Detective had a scary part. Doug Graves’ graveyard was the scariest of Carmen’s villains’ hideouts, & when the vampiric gravedigger Doug turned into a bat, I never felt so scared in my whole life.

God I loved this game, but it scared the bejeesus out of me. I made my mom sit with me when I had to unlock the next door to Ms. Gronkle’s house because I was so scared. I also never walked anywhere because of Repsac. He terrified me!

The 3D animations in here blew my mind as a kid. My public library's kids section was full of iMac G4s with Mac OS 9, and they played smooth as butter. The unpleasant sound effects weren't too bad when you're hearing them through iMac speakers in a room full of shouting kids with other games playing at once My experience with the formulaic nature of the game is that maybe they designed it that way on purpose, I would get taken to the library by my parents, bug them to get my 30-minute computer turn, find the computer I created my save file on...if it didn't already have a kid using it (there were always more names than I could count 'cause these were public computers) and waste some time while they look for their lawncare books or whatever parents get. And if you come back enough, _maybe_ you'll free one of the kids.

Haunted Island really scared me and gave me nightmares when I was a little kid. I had those memories repressed for years until I became an adult. I got over it after watching videos on KZbin for a while. Even though this game doesn't creep me out as much as it used to, I did had nightmares about the game a few times (don't know why). The ending was disappointing--Ms. Grunkle got off scot-free--saying she'll be back (she never does). I kinda expected it to be challenging or something. But no, it just ends, with no payoff. No one knows the true answer to why Jumpstart 4th Grade Haunted Island was discontinued and (mostly) forgotten. I know they didn't mean to scare so many kids and just wanted to try something new (back when the game came out), but realized they went too far with it. Who knows? I could be wrong.

I could never play the tombstone mad-libs game because I was afraid of the consequences of the Grim Reaper that didn't exist. I also couldn't enter Ms. Grunkel's house after the first time because she terrified me with her uncanniness.

Glad to see someone else cover this game. I did a retrospective of my own and one of the main driving forces behind it was to see if there was any truth to the whole "discontinued due to being too scary" and I came to the conclusion that that likely didn't happen. To me, it seems like the Jumpstart community had a collective Mandela Effect and just ASSUMED the game was pulled for being too scary without finding any concrete proof that was indeed the case. From the few contemporary reviews I could find for it, they actually listed the game's horror theme as a positive. Quite an interesting rabbit hole, for sure.

Idk why, but i feel like this game could have a reimagination with a more horror elements on in, less edutaiment and more action. For example, instead of the Pirates and Egiypt, you go to that town from the first games and find something while an chimera of the funni animals hunt you, or in the Spider minigame you must finish it once, but also litteraly watch your back from a beast trying to get you, and more ideas that i could go on.

It's a long and sad story, but essentially he was rehoused due to a complication with someone else who lived here. I had no say in it and I'm still upset with the whole situation and the horrible way it was handled. Last I heard he was very happy in his new home so that gives me some amount of peace with the situation.
