A small correction: Kanon was not a Jun Maeda Story... The main writer of the story was someone else called Naoki Hisaya... who wrote Ayu, Nayuki and Shiori routes with Jun Maeda writing Makoto and Mai's arcs... The reason for why he's not well known was the fact that he left key studio after working on Kanon and went on to work on several stories such as Sola(manga), Sora no Method(manga), base story of the game "Crystar", etc... While in Tactics along with Maeda... He also wrote story arcs for some characters in both ONE and MOON.

I'm just really excited. Jun Maeda mentioned in an interview that he's already written the ending of HBR and aimed to see it end in 5 years (not considering the production speed). It's extremely rare to see a Gacha game reach it's narrative conclusion and I'm all for supporting the game until it reaches that conclusion.

Damn! Maeda nailed this one. The pacing of its narrative and engaging dialogues is just right. The characters and their largen-than-life personalities and backstories really made this game a worthwhile experience. Not to mention the emotionally gripping plot twist of the current chapter! A masterpiece I must say in VN/JRPG genre. I hope Maeda explores more the JRPG genre.

Correction, kanon was spearheaded by Hisaya, the man Maeda consides his rival and friend. Hisaya along with Maeda and Hinoue Itaru (the artist) were in tactics together (later forming KEY by themselves and few others) and ONE was a huge hit because of Hisayas incredible writing, although Maeda also worked on it, the routes he wrote did not resonate with the players much as Hisayas routes did, this is what drove him to improve while writing Makotos route in Kanon. It was the first route of his that was widely regarded by the entire community. Hisaya and Maeda are both involved in the immense success of Kanon, and it was the first time Maeda proved himself as a writer. Unfortunately key had to let go either Hisaya or Maeda due to financial and other problems. Hisaya volunteered to leave, and Maeda stayed behind working on AIR next. To this day he considers Hisaya his rival and chases after even though he's jealous of him, he said this in a recent interview about how HBR came to be. He was both impressed and immensely jealous of Hisaya, so much so that to this day he remains one of Maeda's biggest inspirations.

This is inspiring. I don't think I have a fraction of the willpower he has. No one should be told to game over themselves but it's sadly all to common

In my heart, Maeda Jun will always be a legend in the anime / vn/ game industry. He create one best anime ever Clannad after story (masterpeice of a show). And Is now working heaven burns red, which is first time in my life where I play gacha game and care more about plot and character development than pulling that ssss star or 5 star waifu. Don't even get me talking the music it a absolute peak, Nagi yanagi and madea jun seriouslly cook with ost, and music composition. ~ in vid ~ I'm just glad the Meada jun was able move on after the controverssy with "The day I became god" which in opinion was really good anime that must people hated for some reason (music and score was phenomenal), although it did felt really rush (kinda made hard to understand). If guys didnt know people were sending death threat to maeda san becaue they didnt like the way he ended the show (just stupid anime fan), so he quit making anime. [Back in 2015 he announced that every five years he plans make anime orginal with p.a works which he decided to stop because of the hate he receive from "The day I became god".] I'm glad your bad Maeda san.

As much as i love the lore of HBR i feel like we honestly dont get enough of it. Most of the chapters only get into lore at the start and towards the end, the middle is mostly filler and overused jokes. I understand they want us to spend more time and grow attached to characters but sometimes it can feel like a real drag

Great video! Came here prepared for a negative take and was ready to defend Maeda, but you covered all great. I think Kanon is the first big hit of Nagike (crying game) with Hisaya Naoki routes setting a precedent. Then maybe he tried to repeat that formula too much, and people are too harsh, but I think Heaven Burns Red is amazing from writing to music composition.

HBR from a story PoV literally screams Angel Beats revival after the obvious failure that was Charlotte. The latter failed nearly everything he had envisioned, this partly or worse off, mostly led to death threats. She Is Legend will be better than Girls Dead Monster for sure.

I always associate Jun with Key and 2000 to 2010 was indeed the golden age of Key. Air, Clannad, Angel Beats, Little Busters, you name it, they were all within that decade. Unfortunately to me, Key magic ended with Angel Beats, rounding up that golden decade. Probably cause my taste had changed with the advent of another renegade author, Gen Urobochi.

Well he is still not good at writing short stories as two most low-rated event stories are written by Jun Maeda. But Jun Maeda also wrote 2(or 3 if Letter on the back is also his work) most high-rated event stories this year, so he does keep improving himself.
