June 12: What Abacha's daughter told me about MKO Abiola--Dele Momodu

Basorun (Dr.) Dele Momodu an international business man of repute, politician and author is one of the eloquent personalities who dotted the space of the JUNE 12, 1993 election struggle, won by late business mogul, Basorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (GCFR). Apart from being an adopted son of the late symbol of democracy, Dele Momodu worked as a Media Strategist for the JUNE 12 Family. He was persecuted and almost assassinated by Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha's military juntas. He later went into exile under some terrible circumstances. In exile, he started his globally renowned OVATION International Magazine as well as working in tandem with some NADECO chieftains (Anti-Military Democratic Forces) to see to the enthronement of Chief MKO Abiola's mandate. In this exclusive interview with Asabe Afrika TV team inside one of his libraries in the heart of Lagos, Chief Momodu told his own story of JUNE 12 in full details. He shared with us some never-heard-before tales about the struggle. Chief Momodu also reacted to the recent national recognition of Chief MKO Abiola as a former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari with attendant honor of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) title to him and GCON to his running mate, Baba Gana Kingibe.
June 12 is also acknowledged as the authentic DEMOCRACY DAY in Nigeria against MAY 29. Chief Momodu a 2011 Presidential candidate of National Conscience Party (NCP) a party founded by late legal luminary/human right lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (who was equally honored with GCON) said Mr. Buhari won a 'heart-trick' with that rare decision to honor MKO Abiola after 25 years of JUNE 12.
The OVATION International magazine publisher also shared what Gumsu Abacha one of the daughters of General Sani Abacha told him about MKO Abiola and June 12 during a recent chat.

Dele Momodu is very inconsistent as usual if he sees nothing wrong in this June 12 move. He speaks from different corners of his mouth depending on where the pay cheque comes from. What did Buhari apologize for? What was the election annulled for? Is Babangida bn questioned after the apology? Abacha still did no wrong whatsoever while Buhari apologizes on behalf of those two; or on behalf of their clique. Awon omo Oduaa, where is our integrity? These killers of Abiola, his wife, Bola ige, Gani etc and all our sons they ridiculed from Diya to Adisa to even Fela and so on cannot be the ones to bring any honor. Abiola will get compensated not through political blackmail and electioneering purposes. It makes cheap the whole struggle bcos it neither still changes nothing nor brings about a restructured federated and democratic Nigeria.

Ola Princewill ... You talk from the informations you're exposed to. There are other deeper reasons, people like you and I are NOT exposed to. Abiola trusted the soldiers. Abiola brought Abacha to power himself, even though some people warned him against it. There were a lot of factions, groups, friends, enemies, etc...confusion everywhere so much that it was actually difficult for Abiola to know whom to trust both in the army and in civilian......the family's closest friend/confidant sold out on Kudirat and led her to her killers......to say it is political is what I don't understand. It happened 25 years ago. A Yoruba man, Obasanjo got to power not by election but by selection on the horse of the June 12 annulment..... Yorubas were happy, thinking Obasanjo would do the right thing. Yoruba elders and other June 12 activists including his family approached Obasanjo, he vehemently refused and told them " OVER HIS DEAD BODY WOULD HE HONOUR ABIOLA" (both are Yoruba)..... Jonathan refused too, instead he honoured ABACHA and apologised to members of his family, which I found laughable.... Now the most unlikely person, Buhari, that Abiola himself sponsored the coup that removed him from power, agreed after much approaches, consultations, deliberations, meetings and other processes to do the right thing and had to swallow his own pride, ego, forgive the past to declare Abiola winner, people are saying it is political? Hell, yes, let it be POLITICAL!... Please, when will such be done without being political when those who will do it is in politics?..... Abiola died political death. Abiola is honoured politically. There is no time that is not right to do the right thing...... If he postponed the honour and suddenly dies or lose the election, how do you think he will feel knowing fully well that God gave him the time and opportunity to do the right thing but chickened out bcos some people who's fathers and mothers were not killed are not happy? ..... Buhari took a gamble that could backfire or even cost him the presidency, but went ahead to take the burdens of hurt off some people shoulders..... Put yourself in the shoes of Abiola's kids others who lost their lives & properties and walk a mile in those shoes......I salute Buhari for what he did....... Even IBB thanked him. Don't you think he's relieved too?...... Those against this june 12 have always been the same people 25years ago, who never wanted Abiola as the president, who kicked against it, who went to court of law to stop the elections, who called on IBB not to declare him president, etc..... they are not new crops of people, the only new people against June 12 are those who believed and shared the aspirations of the enemies of June12.

Buhari praised Abacha, and two weeks after he declares June 12 as democracy day. Are we not so gullible not to know that this is a smoke screen for Buhari to achieve his political ambition? Abiola won the June 12 election clean and clear. The northern cabals used the military which was and is still under their control to annul the election. So what are we praising Buhari for?

Jyde Ajay Abacha was not Nigeria’s problems. Yorubas were the problem. I am telling you. If you are close to seat of power, you will see a lot. Abacha never wanted to be President. He was used to protect the seat from Abiola. They used him and killed him too. Nigerians are very wicked if you know how they are drunk with power.
