Man, I wish more people with such high talents were as open as you are about their insecurities. The world would be a much better place with less pretending...❤
@onlytanner6 ай бұрын
Devin, I first saw you live during the Dreamsonic tour last year and ever since I've been infatuated with your discography. Listening to your updates has been extraordinarily grounding for me to be able to hear someone I admire talk about their struggles and own insecurities. I just want to say thank you for what you do; you sacrifice so much to produce your music and it goes to show in the final results. I do think life post-COVID has shaken us all to different degrees, but having these shared less-than-stellar experiences certainly makes us stronger together. The imperfections in your latest record that you notice are certainly only going to contribute to it in a positive way. Imperfection is beauty after all.

The worst lost I've ever experienced was the lost of my younger brother. He was 13, I was 15 at the time. Friday/Yesterday marked 18 years. I'm not sure if I've ever moved on. I lost another brother of mine to suicide 6 years ago. And theres been other loses I've experienced over the years. Family, relationships, fatherhood ... Other than going on an anger fueled rant (I have bad anger issues) at 33 years old, I don't really know how to express my feelings and or emotions because I feel as though the people I'm surrounded by, dont really care. So I bottle everything up and keep things to myself.

I am a lifelong fan of your writing style, and I don't think I'm alone in that. So the individual output of songs/albums are always a treat, but to me you can never really fail as long as what you are putting out there is accurately translating your personal vision. And it really sounds like Powernerd is another example of that! Thanks for keeping us updated and take care of yourself when you can!

Having your amazing gifts and tireless efforts to convey emotions through your art - I'm sure you expressed yourself, like only you can. I lean on your music and words in my times of despair and pain. I can find songs to cry and get it out - but mostly I reach for your inspirational and joyous music at those times. I hold on, and I get through it. What you do matters so very much, to those of us that connect. Cheers!!

I am playing electric guitar every day for 40 years and have a truck load of material, but I hit a wall trying to make a record because I am too much of a freaking perfectionist. It sucks. I admire the honesty and the energy to work through it and finish it.
@rlm44716 ай бұрын
I struggle with that too. It has helped me to keep my work sessions very short, like 15-30 minutes at a time. If I let my work sessions get long, I tend to get distracted by analyzing what I've done. For me, the key is to keep my mind on the act of creating and leave the analysis part for the end, when the creating is done.

Not the same, but the same: Whenever I cook something, even if everybody absolutely loves it, I'll think "it needed more salt" or "it needed less of this or that" and I used to need to verbalize that, almost as an excuse when it wasn't needed as protection from criticism. What I was ACTUALLY doing by verbalizing those things was to partially lesson the enjoyment/experience of those that were already loving it. It's selfish to do that, let them enjoy the meal and keep those thoughts to myself.
