The more of your videos I watch, the more intrigued I become. A video or two on your SIP setup would be awesome. How are you dealing with NAT for your external SIP provider? I'm just starting to explore Cisco routers, and I'm still learning the basics.

What Cisco ASA did you end up getting? I’ve always wanted to get an AnyConnect appliance
@bluntlab Жыл бұрын
I never got an ASA in the end. In fact I switched away from Cisco all together simply because my internet is now gigabit and any Cisco router that can do gigabit is like a jet engine taking off and costs a kidney. Now using Mikrotik routers so have L2TP for my VPN needs. but I had great success with the OpenConnect server software. worked great for an anyconnect server without paying a dime

@@bluntlab Fair enough, yea Cisco equipment under pressure like that is supper supper loud. I have L2TP, PPTP, OpenVPN, and WireGuard all running, however something about the Cisco AnyConnect UI and just over all experience is amazing. Plus you can configure it to be at the windows login, so if your using Active Directory, and a new user hasn’t logged into the computer they are trying to login to, and they are off site/domain controller isn’t reachable, they can click the AnyConnect icon on the windows login screen, enter their credentials, be connected, and then login to the computer as it’ll be able to contact the domain controller. Never heard of OpenConnect, but thank you so much for bringing it up, as this seems like a way better way to go, both cost effective wise, as no licenses, and just flexibility. Seems a little tricky to setup, but I’m determined as I really love AnyConnect. Is this the only solution your aware of emulating/pulling off the ability to use Cisco AnyConnect? Thanks again for your reply! 😊

Hey there: So what type of POE phone service at my place. Can I use my wireless phone on my home network & Could you tell me where I can start from there. And also I have 4 camera that run off with R45 but I would like to use cat 5 or 6 wire that I can hook it up to my POE switch like to wire use cat wire not cox cable okI'm calling from Houston Tx

To use POE phones you will need a phone that supports POE like the Cisco 7975 that I have and a POE switch to go with it (Like the HP 2520 I have) or an injector if you only need a few phones and dont want a full switch for it You can. if its a DECT phone with like a regular phone line connection then you need an ATA/FXS adapter. Cisco make one but the Linksys ones are preferred (if your using Asterisk/3cx) The best way to start with VOIP is to install 3Cx. its a nice windows based phone system and its quite simple to setup. although PBX In a flash is not a bad 2nd option if you dont mind installing a Linux distro Okay that sounds like you have analogue cameras using baluns to convert from coax to RJ45. the good news is you can upgrade to an IP/Network camera quite easy with that already in place but would need new cameras to do that as an analogue camera dont support a proper network connection

My advice is get everything up high away from carpet.... static can kill your electonics
@bluntlab6 жыл бұрын
Their in metal cases which are earthed... if static is gonna get inside the gear and bypass the grounded chassis then so be it I have not invested a ton in this. Static is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be

You should put all your network stuff etc in one location rather than having them spread about everywhere and I would put them on something other than carpet as to avoid dust and other debris

What vendor router are you looking at getting ?
@bluntlab6 жыл бұрын
My new router is another Cisco. not the easiest to setup but their what I know
@matthewbennett28446 жыл бұрын
BluntLab ah Cisco is easy enough once you get your head round it.

The 800 series with the inbuilt switch had me confused for a while (does VLAN's like a switch vs subinterfaces) I am pretty good with Cisco now. even have the Callmanager Express setup on a 2821 for VOIP which works like a champ. Asterisk is on the side for just voicemail now

Can you provide some of the links to where you brought the equipment from?
@bluntlab6 жыл бұрын
Pretty much everything came from eBay. so cant give a real link for everything as they will sell quickly so all I can say is just do a search on your local version of ebay for stuff like this. can be some really good deals. think I paid £60 for the 24 port gigabit fully managed HP switch. and I dare say it is nicer than a brand new Ubiquiti and defo much cheaper and a brand new equivilent

I got a steal of a deal on a Cisco 3750 48 port PoE for $50 AUD!

What a mess :( Could be a great setup if you tidy it all up and get it off the floor.

Pretty much as good as it can be. this house is tiny. the is nowhere else to put this gear. and being a homelab I am often making changes so neatness comes 2nd
