The af (802.3 af) is just a standard. "802.3 at" being another one (carries more wattage). But they are both 48 volt. 24 volt is what UniFi is moving away from, but a lot of their Airmax and Edge line still use 24v passive POE.
@GavinTranter6 жыл бұрын
802.3af is 48v POE that auto detects the device is plugged in by a certain resistance on the device, you beat me to it :). i dont think Ubiquiti are moving away from the Passive 24v POE, they will be sticking to that for all there WISP hardware and probably still keep the support for it on the Unifi Video. it just seems they are moving away from it for Unifi kit or making it 802.3af as well like the G3. which is good for companies that already have POE switches without the support for Passive.
@smccrode6 жыл бұрын
Gavin Tranter yeah just the UniFi line is moving away from 24v passive.
@timbozza16786 жыл бұрын
stuart they're not "moving away" from the lower-voltage PoE standards. They're just also supporting higher voltage standards to support power-hungry devices like higher-performing APs and IoT devices.
@smccrode6 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. They are actually moving away from 24v in the UniFi line. See top comment from UBNT-Brandon here: community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Stories/Awesome-new-UniFi-Switch-8-60W-now-available-in-the-Beta-Store/cns-p/1748380/page/3
@timbozza16786 жыл бұрын
stuart You're right, my bad. They decided to standardize. A simple 1/2 voltage divider on 48V manual port config. should fix that. Could make a simple adapter with rj45 male and female ports, or inline of the Ethernet cable itself if you wanna get messy.

How would your Wireless ISP comply with the new EU General Data Protection Regulations which come into effect in the UK on 25th May 2018?
@LikeAcrid6 жыл бұрын
John Peter Crich what is it
@crichisthebest6 жыл бұрын
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. It addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. Check this link: www.eugdpr.org/
@crichisthebest6 жыл бұрын
It applies within EU countries as well including the UK, and the data he would collect about his clients would names, addresses, bank details to pay the monthly fee and network telemetry.
@crichisthebest6 жыл бұрын
I only found this out when I had done work experience at Peterlee Town Council and the EU law must be abided by all EU countries and the UK whether small or large businesses.
@crichisthebest6 жыл бұрын
I was saying as this compulsory Data Protection Law comes into effect on the 25th May 2018 and if Alex does not comply with the EU GDPR there will be massive fines to be paid or potentially a prison sentence. As for massive fines, these will go into the hundred's of thousands and possibly into millions which Alex runs a small business and would not be able to afford the fines imposed. So it is best to adhere to the new EU law.

Your sadly mistaken if you think setting up Unifi is that easy - its not plug-n-play. Also those talking about Cisco Meraki, you do realize that that equipment is up to 5 times the cost of Ubiquiti right? And it requires a yearly license fee. For prosumers and SMB's, Unifi is a good fit. However for enterprises, most will lean towards Cisco but thats not to say that Ubiquiti cannot handle enterprise because it can with ease.
@jbossnack6 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. I've worked with both and Meraki is not an option for most SMBs because of the fees. UniFi is great but also not PNP. I have this same setup in my home with the NVR and cameras. It's all very reliable. My only complaint is doing RMA is cumbersome.
@TheFatDingus5 жыл бұрын
@@jbossnack Yeah, I'm Meraki certified and I love the equipment, but I wouldn't spend the money on it for my home use. Personally, I just use what I can get my hands on when decommissioning equipment for our customers. So I have everything from Ubiquiti Access points, to a Sonicwall. I just don't want to pay the license fees for Meraki.
@jbossnack5 жыл бұрын
Fat Dingus yup I have decommissioned many types of equipment too and always find a new purpose for them somewhere. I just paired some HP MSM430 with EdgeRouterPoE5 for someone and it's working great as an all autonomous based system vs an all controller based system like UniFi or Meraki.
@Elementalism4 жыл бұрын
Agree as somebody who has deployed Meraki in the enterprise. I would love to have Meraki for home. But it is simply not a feasible product. Ubiquiti offers a nice price entry point and web gui management. For SMB or enterprise Meraki is perfectly fine, but I would steer away from it at home due to cost. Though I will admit there are cheap MS220 48 port switches on Ebay. But the licensing runs about 100 a year. I debated it but ultimately decided against it.

You should consider using Cisco Meraki, it's super easy to config, similar to unify, with the advantage of automatic updates (or scheduled), 24/7 tech support, life-time warranty in all indoor gear, SD-WAN to setup custom SLA to each diferent type of trafic you could think (cloud storage, gaming, social networks, etc) [if the SLA of a certain type of trafic drops from a certain lvl, that trafic switch over to the other WAN link]. You can pre-configure it since the purchase, so you literally just have to plug and play your devices as soon as they arrives. You can manage multiple networks from one dashboard, has traffic analytics so your network acts as a sensor, and as Unify it has a web GUI, but the difference it that you can access to the control dashboard from anywhere in the world without the need of a VPN. And many more features that unify doesn't posses. It would be nice if you make a video comparing those two :)

If you’re using this gear for your clients and segregating their networks then you may just prefer to use AWS or G-Cloud and do layer 3 adoption, got much better scalability and can still lock down the FW to their external IP, saves having to continuously buy cloud keys or maxing yours out (60 devices I believe) and have to migrate away later on 👍🏼 obviously being cloud based has its own perks on redundancy too, cloud key goes down, config on devices disappears! (Just from my experience!)

This video wasn't bad actually. This is overkill though, for a business, probably not, but for a consumer, it's all very expensive stuff. (albeit, most of it is anyway) I like a tool called Glasswire, it lets you see your network bandwidth, with cool graphs and stuff, and it also shows you what's connected to your network. I'll give an example, most people off the bat won't have a server rack, so already it's a bit hard to aim this at consumers. Some of their other stuff isn't bad though.
