Ooo, I’m so happy to see Anne Rice here. She’s my favorite novelist. Please read her book Cry to Heaven if you haven’t already. It’s not one of her supernatural books. It’s basically about 18th century Italian castrati in the opera world (altho the story is far more complex than just that). I miss Anne. Her attitude towards sexuality and gender identity was beautiful. She said many times she didn’t consider herself male or female and that she had a bisexual mind (even tho she’d only ever physically been with one man). And she said trans people were magical and humanity had so much to learn from the trans experience. We need more people like her. Her book The Witching Hour is absolutely stunning as well.

I've read Interview with a Vampire not too long ago and was surprised to find out how many of the modern vampire tropes are stemming from this book. The only beef I have with this book is it's formatting - every edition of this book I ever looked is the same: page after page of block of text, without even as much as a paragraph to break it out, not to mention pretty much absense of chapters. This made for a very tiring experience, despite fascinating and captivating contents, even for my friends with non-neurodivergent brains.

Hi Willow, I almost hesitate to mention more books when you've got such a stack, but this sounded too good not to share info right away. I was watching a "mid-year freakout tag" video by Lindy Magpie Reads, and five minutes in discovered an author I think you'll love, John Elizabeth Stanzi. Watch Lindy's comments on the upcoming short story collection (Bad Houses). There is also a book of poetry I'm definitely going to check out, Junebat. Or maybe you already know about this (Canadian, nonbinary) author? 😀

@@wifeundertheseait definitely follows the events of the book for the most part, the framing device for why the interview is even happening is a bit different tho as well as multiple changes to character which, in my opinion, only gives them more depth! I watched the show first so I might be biased when I say you can watch it first but I highly recommend reading the book anyway, even if it's after. It's gorgeously written anyway and gives you more insight into the world and it's interesting to see what changes were made.
