Now this is country music. Not half naked and cussing. And not screaming the words out. No light or fireworks.

I’ve watched every episode of this show I can find, and very often I’ve noticed the “house band” on this show was superior to the bands used on the studio recordings, especially the fiddle players. A good example is in Faron Young’s “A Place for Girls Like You.” During the instrumental break of the song, fiddles are a dominant element. There’s a 3 note “pop” similar to that which you’ll hear at the beginning of just about every Ray Price song of the time. The show’s band was just so much more crisp and clean, whereas the band on the studio recording was more “muddy” (best word I can think of) sort of cutting the brightness of the instrumental and diminishing the song a bit in my opinion.

Poor thing, her first marriage was falling apart and her husband did indeed love someone else and divorced her the next year. Ironic that she would be on the other side of a similar situation with Johnny Cash nearly a decade later.

The marriage between June and Carl Smith was never a real strong marriage as really the first nationally popular celebrity marriages between 2 stars in country music. June divorced Carl Smith in 1956 because he cheated on her with Goldie Hill and the next year in 1957 they would both get remarried, June to Edwin nix and Carl to Goldie. Their divorce made the front page of the Tennessean newspaper in 1956. They remained friends for life.
