What a lovely garden! And you have beans and peas already!!! Tomatoes can be hard to get started sometimes. I bet you will have more plants to harvest in another month or so. Definitely cut down more trees to get more sunlight! Your helper, Gavin, is so sweet! Thanks for the garden update, Candice!!!

Hi, Candice. Nice to see Gavin getting involved in the garden. As kids, my siblings and I would frequently snack on the peas, tomatoes, carrots etc straight from our gardens.. which is probably why my eyes lit up at the sight of the peas in your garden. You'll really notice the difference in growth once those other trees are down. Thanks for sharing 👍

Looking good Candice! Yes, it's all trial-and-error finding out what works and what doesn't! When I was a kid, I would love to follow my Dad around the garden learning how to grow stuff. I remember he would put the seed packets on sticks, then push them into the soil to show what had been planted. Then I used to check every day for signs of growth! 😂. There's nothing like home-grown produce! 😋

The Best Garden advice is Rosalind Creasy The complete book of edible landscaping. She tells you what to grow with each crop to keep it safe! I was growing in Florida and got the book and I could compete with my husbands father and the local nursery would stop by!

Candace I remembered this little trick to get rid of aphids. I looked it up to make sure I got the measurement amounts correct. One tablespoon of dish soap per gallon of water: Spray the leaves, especially the undersides, every few days for two weeks. You can also add cayenne pepper or neem oil to the mixture. Just a suggestion 😁 Be Happy 😂 Safe and Healthy 💞

The Strawberry plant should create little baby plants that you can just put in a pot and do not have to start with seeds. also. Egg shells help out with keeping slugs away as well as if you boil them the water can be a good fertilizer. . coffee grounds also can be a good fertilizer for certain plants. Gavin is adorable. love when children are very excited to see things grow. from the fruits of their labor. thank you for sharing. i absolutely love watching your videos.

Looks great! All I have harvested so far is garlic. My lettuce always bolts this time of year. The yellow leaves on some of your plants could indicate a lack of nitrogen. You might want to try a water soluble fertilizer to give them a quick boost. Water soluble is very easy-- just mix a little in a watering can and go around barely wetting the leaves of each plant that is yellow for 2 or 3 seconds and if that's what they needed they should green up within days. Happy gardening!

Hi Candace, not bad for starting out. Yup, sunlight is definitely what you need more of. I find it’s okay to cheat a bit with starter plants because my home doesn’t get ample sun to germinate seeds all my seeds. I have enough room to start a few tomatoes and that’s it. Oh, and my marigolds all died this year too up here in NY; I personally think it’s a bad year for them because other gardening KZbinrs aren’t mentioning them much. 😂 I look for the buzzing when shopping too! I might suggest doing some sweet potatoes in buckets. And try planting some borage seeds to attract pollinators. They will self sow year after year. Those nasturtiums (nas-TUR-shums) are looking good! Gardening is a journey, and I’m sure you’ll be pursuing it fully once your cabin is livable.

@@savingthecabin lol! I didn’t realize y’all were anti-sweet potatoites! 🤣 I’m guessing there was sweet potato trauma at some point. I feel that way about mushrooms! Maybe in my northern ignorance I figured everyone in the south liked sweet potatoes! Heck, I make them with condensed milk, butter, brown sugar, and bourbon, and call them ‘Southern’. They taste great mashed up. And the bourbon 🥃 helps. 😉

Candace, it's apparent that you have put a lot of work into your garden. I love the boxes you have planted in. You don't have enough sun. I live in Arizona and have too much sun. You mentioned in your last video how you planted your potatoes. I didn't fully understand. Could you repeat that?
@savingthecabin6 ай бұрын
I put down cardboard the a thin layer of garden soil, then seed potatoes. Then you sprinkle a little soil on top. You can still see the potatoes. Ones they have some leaves coming out, you cover in a layer of mulch or straw. Doing it this way you can pick out some new potatoes early and then still easily harvest the rest along the way till the plants have turned brown.
