I believe if you ask anyone who's spent time in those two cities you'll get Shanghai as the answer. All my friends who ended up in Beijing did so for career opportunities (IBD, PE, contemporary art...). If career is not a constraint, Shanghai is just so much better in housing, traffic, climate, urban planning, dining, culture, aura, etc...Also if you wanna work in advertising/fashion related/design then Shanghai is the place for you.
