I've said it once and I've said it a thousand times - there is no finer interpreter of songs on the planet than June Tabor - I fortunately have about a dozen of her albums and a number of them contain truly staggering versions of multifarious songs mostly with Huw Warren in tow playing his superb piano...I've never heard this before and it's fantastic as I've come to expect... For those of you who enjoy this, check out her album ALEYN - it's monumental... and if you want a good cry, try A PROPER SORT OF GARDENER.

She sings it much better than Bob Dylan .

I'm just at the end of The Transports which has a June Tabor tune or two and is absolutely tear-jerking. The story of a young man whose poor but honest father turns to a life of robbery to make ends meet when there simply is no work to be got. The boy has just come of age and the constables take him. He would be hanged by his father but for his mother who intercedes on his behalf and begs the judge for clemency. The sentence is commuted to 14 years of transportation to the Australian colony and to rot in prison until such time as a transport ship should be available to take him. He finds love, loses love, nearly loses his child, and never sets foot in England again. It's horribly tragic. I own the CD. I'm definitely going to give a listen to Aleyn and A Proper Sort of Gardener. Thanks for the tip!

This has got to be the best version of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice," I ever heard. I heard this song so many times I usually ignore it now. But this grabbed my attention like none of the others before. I think Ms Tabor found the right niche for this melody and lyric. It works brilliantly. The song has new life. It sounds new. Her vocals are so sincere and warm. It sounds like she's singing it personally to the whoever hears it. Great music...simply great.

June… what a talent. She goes straight to the heart and haunts. Her voice is like the echoes of my mind. I'd like about ten men in the last 40 years, who have met me, to hear this in an empty room.

June is brilliant as always, but Huw Warren really is fantastic on piano here. Probably improvising on the fly, too! It shines even brighter on the album "Some Other Time".

@jrdavage Central Oregon is volcano country. Lots of cinder pits, craters, etc. This particular area is about 10 miles south of Bend, OR, just east of Sunriver.

@johannaaustralia I first heard it about 9-10 years ago, streaming on ABC's Dig Music channel. It took me a long time to find it as well. :)

If you like this (and I for one really love it), rush out and buy the new Quercus album "Nightfall" (ECM 2522) which includes a new version of this. Still just June and Huw, but even better!!

Still prefer Mike Ness's version (obviously a completely different feel) but love this. June's and his are the only two covers I have ever cared for.Sorry Bob...but thanks for the great song!

Brilliant !!, is it a cover of a cover ?? Sounds more like the late, great John Martyn's version (better IMO) than Dylan's original.
