Re the effects of Jane Eyre…long, long ago in high school I was required to read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. I thought, “Ug, this is going to be horrible!” Much to my surprise they were wonderful and so my mind was opened to reading the classics, which I have done ever since.

Oh, they’re wonderful aren’t they? I reread Jane Eyre every year…I never get tired of it.

Such a fun reading project, Jenna! I can’t wait to hear how these turn out. No wonder you wanted some light ones. 😂

Right? It’s a lot of dark…fun…but dark.

I'm a middle school teacher librarian, retiring in 4 short weeks, and have been looking for some adult reads, thank you for the suggestions.

You’re welcome! I’m a middle school English teacher too. Just wrapping up my 25th (😮) year. Do you have any recommendations? I’m always trying to keep a book ahead of my 8th graders. :)

@@Bookslovejenna my eighth grade girls seem to love the romance/fantasy genre, and the boys tend towards non-fiction and the reliable Wimpy kid :-) is still one of the most checked out book in the library. Holly Black is very popular right now with her fairy novels.

Have you read any of Jaime Jo Wright's books? They are great!

I’ve read a couple and have at least one on my shelves that I haven’t read yet. They’re fun but I’ve yet to read one that REALLY blew me away. So far they’ve been a little too predictable.

As someone who loathes the book Jane Eyre. (She is such a weak, stupid character with zero self preservation skills and he is a manipulative predator) I see more of an influence of older architecture in lonelier, romantic settings. Moors sound much cooler and dramatic than prairies or plains.

Thanks for your perspective. Jane Eyre is my favorite book of all time so this may not be the channel you’re looking for. But you are welcome here if you can handle all my blatant Bronte love.
