Education for Black Americans didn’t come easy.
Because Black Americans were held back from freedom during slavery, it also held them back from education, and to this day, the Black community is still feeling the ramifications.
Due to the lack of resources, finances and a multitude of other external factors, many Black Americans don’t have the opportunity to take advantage of a higher education. For example, only 35% of Black Americans have associate degrees or higher, and Black student enrollment has also declined over the last 10 years, according to a Lumina Foundation-Gallup 2023 State of Higher Education study.
Over the years, many Black Americans, and people of other races, have decided to follow in their ancestors’ footsteps and attend an HBCU, which has provided the campuses with exposure.
To know an HBCU is to know homecomings, marching bands, step shows, and more importantly - culture. To celebrate HBCUs and the history of Black education, we have to take a look back at how it all got started, which for some, could be a hard story to digest. Read more: www.khou.com/a...

In the North and East, it's every man for himself. But in the deep South and West, Black people stick together, that's because of Juneteenth.

You've got some remarkable Black people out here who made something out of nothing in life, that's called resilience.

Once the soldiers (with guns) showed up (determined to uphold the laws of the Union) let everyone with in ear shy know--White and Black, Red, Yellow, Brown, No More Slavery, it's over. People colored dark was getting to reading and writing (since it had so vehemently been denied), and others were getting as far away as they could out of town. Poet Tracy Clark inspired by Pairie View HBCU

As the world continues to issue Us more acknowledgment on being FREE; I wonder when are We going to sincerely acknowledge one another as being FREE? And love one another. As I travel to percentages where there's less of us. It's sad how when our paths cross there's no effort to look up and even nod their head or speak. Even if I say HELLO, it's a mumble. Or nothing is said. It's rare that I'll get the same HELLO. Again what are we showing the YOUTH? HYPOCRISY! Oh yes we're free when we can party or get a sale on merchandise. But then when it's time to acknowledge one another in a remote setting, it's null and void. When you get time, I would like your help on these issues. I'll keep praying! Your Sister in Christ!

Idea? Since people of color have several options to celebrate Martin Luther King, February, Juneteenth, Kwanzaa. Why not start entire month of March Irish, May Italian, and find out what other cultures month would be. Some would need to share a month if it's the same. Either way let's try to think really fast and help relinquish some of his ongoing hate!

If they would had left us minding our business we wouldn't have to celebrate any holiday, they should have left our ancestors where they were and left them alone and it wouldn be none of this

We need to take the holidays and use them to our advantage. WE should be writing our history books for our schools. Not White folks.

We must keep Juneteeth ALIVE. It's one thing I disagree with and that is Juneteeth belongs to us not everybody because everybody didn't go through wat our ancestors went through and we as black people went throught alot and no matter what we have they will always try and take from us in everything we do or have. I can't see Juneteeth being for everybody because if it was it wouldn't be just our holiday it would be everybody holiday. We are the only ones who celebrate it. What does anybody else have to celebrate Juneteeth for? All these other holidays mean something to these people who made these major holidays and they let it be knowing but soon as black history month comes, nobody other than us cares. Every day is BLACK HISTORY MONTH, and every day is JUNETEETH. 💪🏾🫱🏾‍🫲🏿👊🏾🤷🏾‍♀️
