All these realities are true. And honestly when we choose the degree we are not aware of these things. I sometimes feel scared for high school students who aspire to be Dr’s. It’s like yes I see the excitement but there’s more in the degree that one needs to consider before choosing it. And the reality of the degree I would say is really only well understood by those who are already doing it. So when high school students approach me with all the excitement I’m always caught between how much should I tell them, coz also at the same time you don’t want to demotivate them. Job shadowing and having doctors speak about their experiences to high school students would really be helpful. Because in high school it’s all painted as the perfect career. But students need to be well aware of these realities. Informative helpful content👏

So insightful doc!🥺Young people that are considering medicine or in med school are so lucky to have such honest content so that they know exactly what they’re getting themselves into, especially in this economic climate. Enjoyed this!❤

Do you get paid during community service doc and if you wanna open a private practice do you get financial assistance from the government to do so or you do it all by yourself?

After this, I'm more rooted to studying medicine abroad and only coming back to do my residency 😩.

Well it’s not necessary to do that. Studying is still great in SA And as mentioned internship and com serve are a requirement but after that you can forge the medical career you want 🤍

If i may ask..what do u mean when u said med. Is hard? Doing a comparism to gr12 workload n med whats the difference??
@MoratweMasima2 жыл бұрын
😭 Matric was EASY compared to medical school and now working as a medical doctor. Medical school is like your matric year but in one module in terms of quantity. Do you can study all day and still not cover the course work required for your examinations. Being a real life doctor is hard because we have tough working conditions. It is emotionally, physically and mentally draining because we don’t have enough doctors so you can work all day with no breaks.

Is community services same as internship??

No it isn’t. We do 2 years of internship then you have to do one year of community service 🤍

do you think moving abroad after comserve is a good idea? and wouldn’t they want you to first learn their medical system before hiring you (abroad)?
@MoratweMasima2 жыл бұрын
Well that is still partly my plan if I don’t get a job after community service. And yes depending on the country they require entrance exams you prepare for. For example the UK has PLABS
