I have dislocated my left shoulder over 10 times and subluxated my right shoulder once. I have managed all this while without surgery. Now after a long time, I'm getting less and less dislocations. Why? I have jacked up my rotator cuffs. Band exercises. Scapula exercises and hanging are the only solution

Watched this live, was such a great fight, absolutely devastating for this to happen to JDS. Full props to De Castro for recognizing the injury and trying to alert the ref. Also, yes the referee SHOULD have called the fight right away, because as Chael pointed out on commentary, MMA does not have injury timeouts for non-foul injuries
@Oakshield2
@Oakshield2 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. MMA refs really feel like they're on some sort of pressure to keep the show going no matter what. I feel the same about eye pokes and nut shots, it should be an instant 1 point deduction, accidental or not. A foul's a foul and enforcing the rules would definitely reduce their occurrence, guys would throw more carefully and manage their hands better.
@ReadIcculus93
@ReadIcculus93 2 жыл бұрын
Ive watched way too much mma to know that they DO have injury timeouts in mma. Normally its only for cuts, but the ref can temporarily stop the fight to have a doctor come in to check a cut, to check a fighter's vision. The ref can then re-start the fight if the doctor clears the fighter. This ought to be the same principle applied to shoulder separations. If a fighter can spit out his mouth piece to get a Ref to say the word "Time", then they should do it for something that will have an equal impact on the fighter's performance. Fighters can continue to fight after their shoulder is back in place, why not let them?
@lonewolfpoetics
@lonewolfpoetics 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReadIcculus93 true, there IS timeouts, but technically there should NOT be lol. But yeah cuts are the exception, I guess anytime the doctor comes in would be an injury time out. But I think for something like this, the fight did need to be stopped immediately

@victordiogenes7131 2 жыл бұрын
@@infinitemonkey917 not really, man. When a guy blitz forward, sometimes you can miscalculate the distance on a kick and it happens. But in the vast majority of the time, a nut shot occurs when the kicking guy doesn't have good control of his movements. It happens mostly with beginners. I fight on both stances and the last time i kicked someone on the balls was years ago.

Hey doc, you've talked about some soccer injuries in the past (mostly recent ones). I would like to suggest you cover the head injury Petr Cech suffered in 2006. I think it's an interesting topic given how it happened, the severity (being a skull fracture, which you don't talk that much about) and how iconic the helmet he started using after became.

I had a bad shoulder that dislocated a couple times but the worst was when i was in vacation in the bahamas i jumped in the water and my shoulder came out and we were 5 miles off shore and it didnt go back in. We had to drive 1 hour back to the island through bumpy waves and then when i got to the urgent care they only had 2 employees and made me wait outside for 45 minutes because they had a patient inside. They finally got me in and drugged me up a lot and were able to pop it back in. Im sure we had a lot of the same negative thoughts going through our heads when u were in the ER and I was in the boat on the way back in. Dont let those thoughts take over and just be postiive. Boxer Danny Williams suffered a dislocated shoulder in a fight with Mark Potter. Williams' shoulder went back in, but it dislocated again shortly after. Williams fought one-handed with his right arm hanging down at his side and still somehow managed to knock out Mark Potter. Another case is Lomachenko: he won by KO despite his shoulder dislocating at the end of the 2nd rd against Linares. Lomachenko underwent surgery following the fight, but his dislocation wasn't as apparent as Williams'. Those are a couple of cases where the fight wasn't stopped.

Danny Williams's KO of Mark Potter with only one functional arm was amazing. Another, similar case was that of the Olympic boxing champion Tyrell Biggs, who won a 10-round decision over Jeff Sims with a broken right collarbone suffered in the second round. (Shortly thereafter, Biggs lost to a prime Mike Tyson.)

Fair point. But what about an eye poke? That is not technically a timeout like getting kicked in the nuts in MMA. It’s just a grace period basically. I know one takes longer but they are both injuries that can be debilitating. I mean Bisping legit has 1 eye.
@Mrraerae

@@TheRedAnvil40 an eyepoke is a foul, there is an exception for fouls in the rules where if you get hit with an illegal move, you have up to 5 minutes to recover. Since injuring yourself throwing a punch isn't an illegal move by the opponent, you need to survive to the end of the round. Then they can maybe put it back into place between rounds. If you just hurt yourself and fall down during grabbinh your arm during the round, that's a TKO, you got hurt and stopped fighting

Meh. They kinda do the same thing when someone’s mouth guard falls out. They don’t stop the immediate action, but once there’s a break the ref will call a quick time out so the fighter can put his mouth guard back in. JDS just needed to put his shoulder back in.

It shouldn't have come down to a doctor's decision. When a fighter is unable to defend themselves, it's the referee's job to stop the fight. That fight was over. You can't get medical treatment in the middle of a round and then continue the fighting. The refereeing at that event was nonexistent. But, as usual, awesome insights from Sutterer.

Happened to me playing hockey when my centre knocked a guy down on top of me while my arm was underneath me. The doctor that set it had me put my other arm around a nurse, then kinda lifted & twisted the other one. The thing that I remember best is being nearly knocked out from the lack of pain when it popped back in. I personally dislocated my shoulder throwing a punch during an amateur fight . It didn’t stay dislocated like JDS tho. I think it was more of a subluxation, but later the same day, I lifted my arm to wear a sweater and it dislocated for real. A month after, I fell with my arms extended and that injured shoulder was dislocated bad. It was very difficult to reduce it and the ambulance came in. After that second dislocation, I had 4 more playing tennis, laying on my stomach and trying to catch my cat. I had a surgery for a very damaged labrum two years ago and I never experienced a dislocation again. But I’m still very fearful ever since.

I actually dislocated my shoulder for the first time like this. Ended up having three more dislocations and got a labrum repair. Haven't had any problems in 4 years wish I got the surgery sooner

I dislocated my shoulder playing football. Running & tackler wrapped me up & while falling I put my left arm out to brace my fall. Jan. 1st, frozen ground. That was in 1978. I’ve dislocated it approx 8/9 times since. I put it back myself by staying calm, laying on my back & using my right hand I rotate my left arm like a clock hand. When I’m close to 12:00 it slips back in & man does that feel good!

Maybe it's time for him to retire. He had a good career but I think its time.
