Also, there are a ton of wasp and bee species out there, most of which are essential to our environment. Do not hurt them. We are majorly fecking them over in a multitude of ways anyways, from mono-cultures to pestisides to introducing a massive quantity of honeybees to compete with them. Honeybees can’t pollinate everything out in nature. That’s why there are so many kinds of bees ans wasps out there. Many are specialized toward certain plants.

Audiologist here. Love the healthy hearing plug about protecting our ears! But, the tympanic membrane, while able to be damaged from extremely loud things (e.g. explosions in military zones), they aren't what you're worried about when listening to loud music. It's your hair cells within the hearing organ (the cochlea) and auditory nerve that we are most concerned about! Dr. Mike, please keep making awesome content! 9:22 "Why is there dynamite behind the EKG?" Always makes me sad when I remember not everyone reads Bizarro comics. Context for Mike and others: Dan Piraro likes to hide various objects in all his comics. An eyeball, A piece of pie, a Rabbit, an alien spaceship, the abbreviation "K2", a crown, a stick of dynamite, a shoe, an arrow, a fish tail, an upside down bird, Olive Oyl (from Popeye) or the abbreviation "O2", and a pipe.

Oh yes! I used to read the comic in my newspaper and knew his style and was going to see if anyone replied to that! Didn't know there's Olive Oyle too 😂
@SomeYouTubeTraveler2 ай бұрын
I felt so old watching this young doctor not recognize Bizarro comics, and realizing that you could probably stick any one-panel comic strip in front of someone his age or younger and they wouldn't realize the fact there used to be funny pictures in the world before the invention of memes. I'm only in my 30's, and even I remember asking Dad for the comics section every Sunday and huddling around it with my brothers, laughing our butts off at Calvin and Hobbes and Foxtrot, and making fun of how un-funny Marmaduke and Family Circus were. The Far Side is still the undisputed king of one-panel comics, and I will die on that hill!
@Leshka1472 ай бұрын

Speaking as a fat woman who is working on it, a lot of doctors do really blame everything on BMI to the point of not looking any further. Yes, we know it has an impact on a lot of health conditions. But it didn't cause my endometriosis and lowering my BMI won't cure it either. And same with some other medical conditions. It gets really frustrating.

Doctors make a prognosis off what they see, then ignore what they hear. They see someone large come in and it's weight issues, when I went in mine thought I wanted drugs... I had an infection, so I guess yeah I wanted drugs but specific ones xD. I think it can be a little bit difficult however for a doctor, weight can cause a lot of issues, and if you come in heavy then the doctor will need to ensure the weight is not the problem. Sometimes, information can deter a doctor from the weight due to it not actually make sense in the case, but there are a bunch of things affected. Basically, I understand a doctors POV in the weight issues, however I also understand your POV as your issue had nothing to do with weight.
@SBY02342 ай бұрын
While I'm not overweight, in fact I'm underweight, it must be so infuriating and disappointing for what could be conditions that have nothing to do with BMI get shoved over and then the doc just ends up with, "Lose some weight." Like that's going to do anything to the condition! [And yes, obesity does have an impact on some health conditions BUT not all]
@terataylor1582 ай бұрын
I caught that too. Medical gaslighting is the worst. All of my problems would disappear if I lost some weight and just decided to not be sad. This does not address my fibromyalgia, my ptsd, or my chronic headaches and migraines. My fibromyalgia took years to be properly diagnosed. My daughter has been dealing with a lot of gaslighting too, but she’s not considered overweight. It took almost 20 years to learn that she was autistic!

Alot of my symptoms get worse at night and keep me awake so I end up doing things in the afternoon and at night to distract myself from pain and discomfort including most of my housework. I then end up sleeping in the morning from dawn to lunchtime... I also nap when I can. I live with a rare type of bipolar spectrum disorder. My inherited susceptibility to develop bipolar spectrum disorder was triggered by months of pain, discomfort and not getting much sleep at all. For years I tried to change my sleep habits and sleep like the average person. I ended up worse off to the point I didn't want to be here anymore. I developed Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome because I pushed myself so hard to try to get back to normal. Instead of getting better from a bad back injury I ended up bed bound with my disabled mum looking after me. Years of slowly losing the ability to do anything for myself. Then i gave up on having a "normal" schedule and started sleeping when I was tired and could get to sleep. I'm still recovering from being bed bound ten years later, still basically house bound. My abilities will never match up to the normal/typical/average person my age but I'm aiming to be the best I can be. If you are still reading this I have one piece of advice: If you have to sleep or nap whenever your body/mind cooperates then do it and shape the rest of your life around when you sleep the best. There are a lot of work / tasks that need doing when the people who work during the day are sleeping or jobs that you can do no matter the time... Find what works for you in this season of your life and do it. Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

Dr Mike, you really need to watch this week's We Rate Dogs! You will be so proud of a dog called Bear. Guys, I don't look for thumbs up, I never even go back to my old posts to see if they got any (unless maybe I'm rewatching a previous video). But this is something I genuinely think he should see so please like this. A dog who saved his dad's life using Mike's favourite technique! Please get this high enough up for him to see. He could do a crossover with the sweetest channel online and help them raise money for paying for shelter dogs' medical bills!

The problem with the 60% thing is that completely depends on what headphones and what device you're using. So just keep it as low as works for you. If the environment can easily drown them out even on max either your device is one built intentionally low powered to protect your hearing and you're using open back headphones or you need to live with hearing protection.

5:30 OUCH - Dr. Mike do you really not understand how often female patients go to their doctors and have their very really medical concerns dismissed because the doctor automatically chalks up our ailments to 'BMI', 'stress,' or 'being too emotional'?!?? Do you really not get that?!? How do you not get that?!?!?
@rhowannacable59742 ай бұрын
From his previous videos he actually does , he was rewording the meme to say the same thing - that the doctor in question is stupid + biased. I've seen this comment a few times so he obviously didn't get the intonation right, but he does directly discuss the horrid bias patients with a higher weight experience in several videos and talks about the importance of looking at the whole picture and listening to your patients.

Bad news, if you damage your hearing, your brain say "hey usually I'm able to hear stuff better, why's it so quiet? Guess I'll fill in that blank with this tinnitus". Also, are you possibly on the spectrum? Someone close to me is autistic and they are also particularly sensitive to sounds.

1:08 I would say bellow 85 dBA should be what you aim for, not really 60%. for example my computer at 60% is 75 dBA on big head phone but 82 dBA on my smaller headphone. so definately should get a check for it, not really aim for a percentage, but 60% do be quite accurate a lot of the time
@maggiewilson54322 ай бұрын
What’s the best way to determine the dBA on AirPods if you know? I’ve been following the 50-60% rule in trying to manage tinnitus and hyperacusis but this makes me want to try for dBA instead

it just the general idea, but if you don't have measuring tools, just let it match the level of a conversation or your ears don't feel discomfort. it's hard to truly determent without tools, so like I said, just put it bellow 60% should be fine like Dr.Mike said
