We had a cat that understood the family dynamic of our family. Of who is the adult and who are children. Even included teenager in this cat's understanding of older kitten. Myself and my sibling tried to walk to school one morning. The cat followed meowing along urgently. I felt obligated to let the cat lead us, "lost kittens" back home. She kept double checking to make sure we were still following. Never had any other pet do that. Not to say that it doesn't exist with other animals. Just one story of a 'memberable moment in my life. Not just that. They're still extremely close to their wild ancestors, so we humans just decided to put these little apex predators into our homes because we think they're cute??? There are so many weird fun facts about cats that are kind of ridiculous. Like that the average meow of a cat has a similar frequency as human babies crying, which is one of the reasons we find it so attention grabbing. Or that their purr can literally accelerate physical healing of the human body???? Or that they literally only meow because they understand on some level that humans communicate verbally, and cats that grow up without humans stop meowing after kittenhood????? I love them. I suggest the name Long John Silver! I never got to have a pet while growing up, we lacked the resources for one. But I always wanted to have a cat or domestic fox some day and did a lot of research on cat husbandry! Then, in 2020, my Mom gifted me a kitten. Her name is Milkyway and her first act upon coming home with my family and her brother (after a snack, of course) was curling up in my lap to sleep there. We've been inseperable ever since! She follows me around and pokes me with a single claw just once if I deny her attention and meowing isn't enough lol. And goodness, she insists on so many snuggles ♡ She has a lil sister named Cookie Dough now! Cookie takes over the morning shift by sitting on my chest while I sleep until I wake up, then meowing up a storm and rubbing her lil head against me until I laugh and scritch her! Those two are an incredible anchor to me. I used to hate waking up, realizing the reality I live in all over. But ever since Cookie greets me, I actually enjoy that. Sometimes I lay there in the evening with Milky snuggled into the crook of my elbow and purring for me, and my heart fills with joy. And I can only think: "Right. This is why I want to wake up again tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after..." They slow me down when ADHD jerks me around and keep me grounded when depression tries to drown me. I love them! And they love me too.

As a Cat owner, they are slightly less weird if you know their body language and how they communicate. For example: why do they pretend to ignore you by turning their head away from you? Simple. Cats don’t like eye contact. It’s how they get serious. If they’re looking away from you while doing a slow blink, that means it’s deliberately making itself vulnerable and says “I trust you”. So give your cat a slow blink with little head turn, it’ll get what you mean.

Horror is the lenses through which we explore different perspectives, it allows us to empathise with different people and break unseem veils that are formend during life and granting us insight into the unknown. Having recieved that knowledge , you can direct it into other situations, even the mundane can be explored with this way of thinking. I suppose Junji Ito has applied that mindset. Note that I havent read the cat story you are telling, im just guessing. The way that i got to this conclusion was after watching Coraline, child stories and the horror inside them allowed me to focus on the story much more than any other movie I watched and made me curious beyond the first watch.

My friend and I had a small black cat named Elvira (he named it not knowing about the show) but she was an outside inside cat. One night there was a terrible storm and she didn't come back, she did this often. Later the next day we found her body on the road. She was hit by a car during the storm. My friend was always a jokester always making light of the most awful of things. That's how he coped. Later that night at her grave was the first time I ever saw him cry, full on weeping. One thing we certainly take for granted is the value of life. Whether it being a human or animal. I'm an Orthodox Christian so my worldview is different than most people. However I believe in the power that Man has with all of creation. We are able to feel more deeply about the loss of those we love than any other creature. Since we are made in the Image and likeness of God when something we love dies it truly brings us to the realization that we truly loved something. We loved something that was outside ourselves. It starts small with a pet. Which what truly is a pet but a companion on which you can share this gift of life with? Whether it be for a brief time the pain of loss let's us know how real it truly is. These little creatures are true blessing. Because without them life would be utterly dull.

While a group of cats can be called a clowder, it can also go by a glaring or a clutter. In my own experience, part of the reason that we get pets are for companionship and love. Sorry for all the info and personal anecdotes I typed out, I've just had a lot of experiences the past 6 years or so as an adult with a cat and I love sharing what I've found and experienced with others. 8:30 cats tend to break or get into stuff when bored, I've noticed. Mine eats plastic. If you have a window, make a cozy spot for it, make sure it has toys (a stuffed sock with catnip would be sufficient as a starter toy. I say that due to it being my cat's first and favorite lol) and try playing with it often, even if it doesn't seem interested. I'd also find plenty of time to just sit and do something that doesn't require a lot of movement, like reading. It will take time, but you'll notice the cat laying in the same room as you. That is a good sign, as it sees you as someone it likes. Some cats are never cuddly, some eventually get there. You end up learning how the cat is personality- wise, and it's neat to see different ones when you've been around multiple cats in a single life time. 8:58 you sound like my boyfriend when he met my Maine Coon for the first time. He called P-Chun (pronounced Pee-Chan, my mom spelled the name like that when she named him) "a man stuck in a cat's body" due to his face looking too human- like for a cat lol 9:40 I think cats do that either from being overstimulated or being in a playful mood. Cats, especially kittens, will roughhouse with each other and their mom's tail to learn how to hunt, and it may just be in a roughhousing mood. Playing normally helps with this issue, as it gets the aggression out onto the toy and not your hands. Sometimes it does feel like it's out of nowhere, and that's not anyone's fault. You and I can't read their minds, and cats can't tell us in a language we can clearly understand. It happens, so you got to react accordingly and in a way that won't hurt it. 12:10 actually, if trained right, cats can be really useful in pest control. I'm not sure how one would do that since I never had the need to find out, as he is an indoor cat in a big town. I think they also are pretty decent emotional support animals. Are they chaotic? Yes. Is their litterboxes and occasional hairball/ food vomits gross? Also yes. But at the end of the day, it's a creature that sees you as one of their own when they are very independent, and it feels special having a companion you have to work for their affections. Why would you want to do that? I'm not sure. That would be something that psychology might give vague answers on, but personally, I feel like it's the same as when you get through a level in a video game that you struggled with, except it's creating a bond with a living creature that's independent of you.

Ah, yes, as a dude that lived for maybe 2 years total in a city I know what you mean with "acquiring" a cat - just enjoy it, if it grows to like you enough it'll either stay with you or keep coming back. And feel free to name it, despite them not caring about names they learn to recognize that when you make the sound of their name you are calling them,

I love how when hearing about these kinds of stories behind the author we get to see that despite making some of the most unsettling and scary Manga's Junji Ito is a soft soul who deeply loved his pets

The cat chooses who it wants to be with. My cats chose me and it's been fantastic. Naming a cat means you're familiar with it's presence. It looks like Greebo from the Discworld!

I have let my last two cats "choose" their own name. Its a process from an autobiographical book I read called The Cat Who Came for Christmas. The process is simple: call the cat whatever random name comes into your head, until they start to respond positively to one and that becomes the cats name. It's only a sample size of two, but in both cases they tend to learn their name rather quickly compared to saying the same word over and over. It's not so much what you are saying exactly, but more that they like the way YOU say that word, so it becomes their name. Warning: Don't pick a ridiculous name as a joke, because I assure you they WILL choose that one and you'll have to explain it for the rest of forever to anyone you introduce to the cat.

Cats certainly are very, very strange. Of the two cats I have, only one actually likes me and I have no idea why, I've done almost literally nothing to make her like me so much.

3:30 "Cats might seem boring to you humans" What do you mean? A bulk of the internet is literally built on cat videos. 🤣🤣

This was actually my first Junji Ito manga, although I was already aware of his career and reputation. There's the surreal feeling of uneasiness combined with rather down-to-earth slices of life that makes this a weird yet pleasant experience.

I had a cat bestowed on me by my sister who moved in with a boyfriend, a year after that cat died, a neighbor reached out to me and my dad to asked if we needed a cat since one followed his son home.

People say that I act like a cat. I don't meow or anything wack like that. I'm scared of dogs, I mostly eat and sleep and play, and I'm sensitive. And people treat me like a cat.

Bro, you should read or watch "My Roomate Is A Cat." It's a lot more "chill", not "scary", but is still a slice of life and knows how to rip your heart out at times.

I know it's not fully related to the video, but your comments towards the end about existence reminded me of a quote from, of all things, Invincible. Mild Spoilers for S2E7, the quote was "We aren't our bodies, we're the decisions we make, the lives we change, the people we love & who love us" Loved the video, really liked your final thoughts on this one

I would disagree with the statement, 'And not one of them has ever done anything important'. It depends on what you value or consider important. Nice video as usual.

The parking of the building I live used to have cats. It took me a few years, but I managed to walk between them without they going away. Yeah, it's a stupid and useless triumph, but I liked it.

Talebot, for reference, all three cats I own are able to come and go as they please, they may have different motives from humans and you, but that's why we like them. We trust each other because we understand that we both want the thing that is best for us, so we help each other as we can. Also cats do that "mroop" thing when they are curious about an object or concept, similar to us and the destruction is a reaction to fear or lack of knowledge almost every time. Hope that can help at least a bit.

I've found the comic in my local library, and I grabbed it because I remembered your video about ! I was so glad ! It's such a great story, it made me relate to it a lot as a cat owner. And the Junji Ito faces of horror are quite hilarious in the context ! I can't read his horror stories more than once because he's that good at Horror ! He's really the Stephen King of manga, but the monstrosities in his other works haunt me 😅 One time is good enough 😅😅
