They're hard to find as good rebuildable cores. This is the most complete Silver I've found and with any luck the internals are still good. A tear down video coming up on the condition of the parts.:)

Yes, a lot of the skidders had automatics, he removed it the day before.:)

It all depends on what parts are still, parted out it's worth at least $1500.00 USD if the parts are good. I'm just getting them for my own stock as I have a few Detroits, so nice to have parts.:)

How rare are 53 series engines in your experience? They seem to be harder to find and more expensive than the 71/92 series, but I’m not sure if that is a result of how many were made, or if there’s just more demand for the 53 series due to size/weight.

They're getting hard to find, especially the Silver Series. As time passes more and more end life like this one and go to the scrapper. Many are used for older pickup repowers and equipment. From what information I can find they made close to 1 million 53 series, 2-53 to the 6V53.

@@detroitgarage9430 1 million sounds like a lot at first, but spread out over four decades of production, the yearly average is small. Finding one for a reasonable price today is probably like winning on a small lottery ticket.

@@scubasteve06 True, you either pay a lot for a running one or $200-300 for a parts engine.:) I prefer the parts engines.:)

😂😂 It's not a Detroit if oil doesn't find a way out of the machine. Yea I'm sure he drained the crankcase. All that oil was hidden where it wasn't supposed to be. I hope you are making a Thai racing boat with this one.
