When (not if) the time comes to barter, most probably would be good to have a jar (or two) of Wright's silver polish to spiff up the shine on your junk silver--the day of barter. They polish beautifully with minimal effort. That shine sparkles--in more ways than one.

I love the junk. Just LYK you were mistaken that there is more silver in a 1/2 dollar than in 5 dimes or 2 quarters. The silver is actually the same for all 3. I subbed & liked. Thanks for sharing.

Just a small point, five dimes weigh 5x2.5g=12.5g, two quarters weigh 2x6.25g=12.5g and one half weighs 12.5g.

You misspoke at 1:34 when you said a half dollar has slightly more silver than 2 quarters or ten dimes. Actually, there's twice as much silver in 10 dimes as one half dollar. I think you meant 5 dimes. Also, you said that a half dollar has more silver than 2 quarters. Actually they are the same. A silver half dollar weighs 12.5 grams and a silver quarter weighs 6.25 grams, so two quarters weigh the same as a half dollar and they both have 90% silver.

I keep my 90% in proportion to each other. 1 Silver dollar, 2 half dollars, 4 quarters, and 10 dimes. So if I have 100 Silver dollars, then I have Silver 200 half dollars, 400 Silver quarters, and 1,000 Silver dimes. I have my Silver dollars evenly split between Morgans and Peace dollars. I have my half dollars split evenly into '64 Kennedys, Franklin halves, and Walking Liberty halves. I NEVER purchase Barber coins of any kind, so the quarters are self explanatory. I buy almost entirely Mercury dimes, and don't count my Roosevelt dimes in the same way. I have far fewer Rosies. My 90% Silver makes up a full half of my overall stack. The other half is made up of 1/3 government minted bullion coins, mostly ASEs and CMs. 1/3 is made up of generic Silver bullion rounds. And the other 1/3 is made up of generic Silver bullion bars.

silver war nickels dont fit the 1.40 mark. it has .0563 troy ounce of silver. If u put 1.40 dollars worth of silver nickels thats 28 nickels. 28 x .0563 is 1.5764

Sam Mcbucketts you just have to look at the reject slot on the bottom. some people do not bother checking. since silver has a different weight than clad coins they are immediately rejected. my biggest find was 5 silver dimes, a 40% silver half dollars and a 90% silver half.

Yes. That's including the loss of weight from the copper. Excluding silver dollars. It's just a rule of thumb.

Three things: #1. No one melted US pre 1965 coins--yes they are limitted, but there is about 4 billion face value out there. #2. You are paying way too much for circulated Morgans and Peace dollars. #3. The best place to sell any silver is Criag's List--if you live in any big city, you can get spot or even over spot all day long with just a bit of effort.

Even if you only pick up $1 face value every payday, it will add up. Once you have a hand full to play with....your hooked. The sound and feel of silver is just different. Set your max price, and go slow. I just started buying again in the last month. I sold high like 8 years ago, and its just getting back to my buy price.

A few weeks ago I found a 1953 Canadian tiki dollar that's 80% silver and 20% copper on the shore hidden in the sand. Anyone know if Canadian silver is worth anything?

@@watchmanbaruch1207 Currently .999 coinage now has been ratified by three states. What happens when the junk gets mixed in with our current coinage? Imagine at store register, with JUNK, ROUNDS, BARS, current currency and .999 coinage? Currency NiGHTMARE. 50 % Junk melted down already. One % of the Population holds Junk in BAGS. Other 99% has no clue how to value Junk or to ID Junk. . The PM dealers will charge a hefty fee to turn in your junk to the mint for a ,999 melt down. Junk is already old and worn out. Junk would have worked during your Great Grandma's Day. Silver eagles are known Planet wide. . Junk has a silver content but no longer suitable for a currency any More. In 2-3 week the banks will be covered with silver certificates. You will not hear about any of this from PM dealers or You tube videos. Money to be made at time of Junk trade in to .999 coinage . If you are following the crowd with Junk HOPE-ME-OUMS, always go in the other direction. Think for your self.
