I demonstrate some of the singular features that make the Junker telegraph keys one of the most sought after straight key in the world for operating CW.

Following the introduction to the Junker is a full length QSO using the Junker on it's first Amateur radio QSO with W4PCA.

Just received one of these. Truly the most beautiful ugly key I've ever used. A true Stradivarius of telegraphic instruments.

I just acquired a WW2 "Kriegsmarine" (navy) version DRP. The grey color one. Same one used in the U-boats. Thanks for the video.

It has replaced all the other straight keys on my desk. A fine key indeed.

I found one last month in an antique store with a price tag of a whopping $15 dollars on it and couldn't buy it fast enough. It is truly the finest feeling straight key I have ever used. IMO, worth well over $100. BTW you have a very nice fist on the straight key my friend.

You got a good buy on that one. The precision of adjustment on those Junker's is amazing. It has totally replaced all my other straight keys. My only wish is that it had a Navy knob rather than the flat disc.

@@HamRadioQRP Is the knob replaceable? I can imagine a screw underneath somehow. Might not be original anymore, but it's not rare enough to not mod it (within reason) to taste of the operator. (And store the original knob with a note where it's from...)

I have modified the knob with a disc underneath, and I don't have an issue operating the key. It's been a few years now since I looked at replacing the disc with a knob and the issue was an odd thread pitch. I didn't have anything at hand that matched it. It wasn't a big enough hinderance to re-thread so I just became accustomed to using the disc rather than knob.

I have some of those. The one I prefer is one that my father got as a nayv operator just after WW 2.

Hello Sir, Nice video, What affect on a modern rig would this key have with the choke and in my case I have an 80's DBGM ,mine has a choke ,resistor , and cap . ?
@HamRadioQRP
@HamRadioQRP 2 жыл бұрын
I believe that the choke and capacitor were intended to reduce RFI with high voltage keying but shouldn't negatively impact its use with a modern transceiver unless it makes the resistance too high for the modern rig to act on. What is resistance across your plug?

Ah, nice key! Sadly they stopped producing the key recently. The remaining spare parts are sold on eBay. 73 DK3LJ

DBGM means only "small German Patent" it's not the type of the key. 73 from DL.

I still regularly see them on auction sites. Nicest straight key I've used, although the Navy Flameproof gives it a run for the money.

I just realized we had a nice QSO back in Feb of last year (2020) most likely while I was still recovering from my foot surgery. My log shows you were on your TT Eagle and I was on my KX3 so you had your KX3 to the side and I had my Eagle to the side. I’ve seen your videos a number of times over the years too. I never put 2+2 together. Looking for another straight key (can never have too many) and I’ve always wanted, but never had, a Junker. de W1ND

Hi Glen. Yes I see notes in my log from February 2020 about our QSO. I look forward to another. Good luck on the hunt for your next straight key. I picked up a couple of J-38 style keys (my first non-Euro style straight keys) and have been enjoying using them.
