I wrote to the museum recently and they replied back that the Stuka restoration is on hold for the time being and they anticipate the restoration's resumption in the near future. So it looks like it may be a while before this is finished 😞 They mentioned that their ME 262 restoration has progressed in recent months so it looks like that's what they are currently working on.

It's taking so long that they'll have to start re-restoring the parts they first started with when they finish the last.

This isn’t Pimp My Ride. A true restoration takes several years especially when parts are literally nonexistent. If it takes 15 years it takes 15 years. 🤷🏼♂️

@@casenbeach I live a few minutes away from this place. I saw the original owner who came once Paul Allen before he died of cancer, you know the paul allen bill gates guy. He looked sick but he sat down in a lawn chair and watched a little bit of the flying show. It got sold to a Walmart heir from arkansas and he reopened the place just this year. As soon as he did there was an article in some magazine about aircraft restoration that it was going to reopen soon in Mukilteo WA but after 2 years it would be moving to Arkansas. A few people reported this on their facebook page with a link to the article but when I went there, I read nothing about this. Later they said that part of it was taken down. That's it. If you ask anybody at the museum they just say they don't know. "are the planes still being restored? " I don't know. "Will everything move after a few years? I don't know, Will the planes fly in shows? I don't know.I think they are not being told anything or told to just say I don't know. So that's it so when you say "From what I have been told" what do you mean? I didn't expect the planes to fly this last summer but they have had a few live planes start up and taxi around, so they are working on them. We are hopeful for next summer to see some fly. I do know they put the engines back on the ME-262 which they had them off when I went this last spring.

I often wonder if there is little to no examples of the JU87 in existence because it was such a despised aircraft that nobody wanted anything to do with it after the war, or because it was so easily shot down by modern fighters, or a combination of both.
@FiveCentsPlease Жыл бұрын
+@lukewise1227 Yes and because it was obsolete and many were probably recycled.
@coolhand1964 Жыл бұрын
@FiveCentsPlease. Despite being obsolete by 1941, it was used by the Luftwaffe until 1945. There are only two remaining examples, as well as this aircraft, one is in the RAF museum in London and one is in the Science and Technical Museum in Chicago. It was susceptible to falling apart after being hit by the machine guns of Allied aircraft. My father's stepfather was in the RN and was involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk and then Specialist Ops from fast Patrol Boats along the Occupied French Coast. He never spoke of the war except to say that the Stuka's gave them a 'difficult time' over Dunkirk.

@@coolhand1964 Another Ju-87 project was recently sold, actually the remains of two variants. So perhaps in coming years it will become another complete example if the owners can invest in it. The Paul Allen project was significant in that it completed the missing data for some for some of the Ju-87 variants, which could help future projects. I've always liked the lines of the Ju-87G better and it would be nice to see on resurrected one day.

@@Franky46Boy I would hope that there is far too much invested in the Stuka to not see it completed to flying. The costs to flight certify the engine and prop would probably pay for the entire restoration of a more common warbird. Allen's sister did offer the little-known Fw-189 project for sale but I do not know if it found a buyer. I would say that the Fw-189 was about 50% complete but looking very good, and it was also to be a flier. I had heard multiple times that the Me-262 was only going to make a few flights before permanent retirement, and that would not bother me.
