Definitely the postmortem analysis during engine breakdown is quite entertaining and obviously the upcoming boosted rebuild will be as well. Loving this channel👏

great video, little more info is always nice. Especially for us car fanatics that know the basics.

A little suggestion, I think that most people who are in far enough into the tear down to get to the explanation of how the engine works already know how an engine works. I think the best info for your viewers are just the cool little quirks of these engines. Other that that great video!

the more detail in a engine build makes it way cooler, learning about "wierd" engines is really cool- both the bad and the good

I've taken apart and rebuilt the 4-cylinder boxer from a 1969 Volkswagen bug . But that was back in about 1987 . So watching this is a good refresher on how boxer engines work . As long as you show what you're doing and don't just talk about it , the more information the better .

Things I found recently: 76 911S motor I just pulled apart. Crank had to be ground 10/10, oil cooler was rejected by an aviation company as "unfixable scrap" due to multiple core leaks.

hey great video, as feedback on the explaining of eninge stuff (9:30): i think the basics of how an eningne works isn't that useful for this video (there are loads of other video's that also explain this), i do study automotive technology so i have a good understanding of how engines work and this might be helpful to other people. But the porsche or boxer specific things like the common problems of these engines and differences with engines of other manufacureers is really great.

I think everyone who watches your channel knows how a crankshaft and pistons work :D I'm here for the bodywork / sheetmetal fab skills BUT i'd never seen an aircooled car engine teardown beforehand so thats super awesome. I think you can go even more in depth! Great channel, and great videos.

Finally a full Tony episode! I agree with @asahart2489 in a teardown don’t need to explain basics, rather focus on pro-tips, teardown best practices (stages, organization), what to look for, things that represent poor/high quality and factors that impact tests (all of what you did) - I like the Sherlock Holmes angle… what you saw and what it meant! Look forward to the rebuild episode!

One time i got a 2.5 tdi engine from a junkjard for my t4 and it was missing a oil cap and the van was without a hood, so i pointed that out when buying it. "no i just sold that hood a few days ago, should be fine" Well the engine had water in in and was a write off eventually. But he gave me the money back so it was all good in the end.

5:47… technically it’s not a boxer engine. Yes a boxer engine is a flat engine, but it also has a different firing order and timing than just a flat engine… sooo, technical Porsches are just flat and not boxers…
