I have been driving Cadillacs since 1975. My favorite engine is the "Kettering V8" 365. I have had many. You did everything perfect. I have great respect for you man!!! I currently have a 1958 Coupe DeVille with tri-power. I love the sound and performance of that engine. When you started this series i was not sure what you were going to do. You did it all perfect! My old Cadillac mentors would enjoy this if they were still alive. Thank you so much for making this old Cadillac Craftsman happy!!

Kudos to the whole production. Davin you are a craftsman and the result is a beautiful looking and running classic. The gold paint on the Cadillac logos on the valve cover are really the icing on the cake. Working in television and video production for 40 years I am stunned by the talent of the videographers and editors as Hagerty. The use of new equipment and tech to produce this time lapse showcases their talent and dedication. I know how much work this is and they are truly at the top of their game. Congratulations because this was really a treat to sit back, watch and marvel at the effort.

Had to smile when he tried to fire it up and got a carb backfire. Had a similar experience 62 years ago when a buddy and I rebuilt his '50 Merc flathead after we graduated from high school and he used a cash graduation gift to finance the rebuild. First time ever for both of us. We were working in a drive-through granary shed with a few hand tools and a chain hoist. Having no engine stand we reinstalled the rebuilt engine and the first time we cranked it got fire shooting out of the top of the carb. Took us a while to figure out that the distributor was 180 out.

You are obviously a more experienced and knowledgeable mechanic than I am but I wanted to weigh in on the distributor conundrum and perhaps state the obvious. I know from experience. I think it is natural for someone think to line up the rotor at the start of the Intake-Compression-Power-Exhaust sequence but it actually goes in the middle. Again, I made this mistake but then had an epiphany about it and have been able to help others who went down the same path. I absolutely love the videos and they keep getting better!

Love these videos. So much work goes into the production but for me - the effort is worth it. One thing that strikes me is where are all the young guys working in machine shops? Last year I brought a head to a local machine shop and had a great experience. Dave, the guy who owns the shop, is a one man show. He is busier than ever but can’t find help. His kids didn’t take to the business. Dave is probably early 60’s and own all the old school and newer equipment needed. I asked him straight out after a number of interactions “who is going to take over this business when you retire?”. He told me no one. He will shut it down and sell off the equipment if he can. Not sure of the profitability of these shops but my head, single 4 cylinder head was tested for cracks, skimmed, vacuum tested again and valves cleaned up for $250. Which I felt was a good deal for both sides. Will be sad when these shops disappear.
