I have a junkyard 6.0 ly6 in my 72 Chevelle. We did a cheap rebuild with some dome pistons and 0dec the block and heads, new cam and lifters. Ended up making 11.5:1 compression. It dynoed at 460 hp on 93 octane. About a month later I decided to switch it over to alcohol and with the new quick fuel alcohol carb and ignite red alcohol it made 513 hp. I would love to see what nitro would do

I’ve been wanting to do this for ages, best sounding stock cam ls I’ve heard 😂 put it in a vehicle and start bringing it to the track, start on straight meth, then add 10% nitro after every good pass until you get back to 50% would be great info, then after that creep it up even higher and you will start getting into the sweet spot for nitro, doubt it lives but would be cool to see!

Depending on what cam you run for what your application is.. that’s going to establish the header flames! getting the right valve overlap and such (load, RPM, etc.) and is where you make it happen!! :) I LOVE THIS!!

New subscriber. That was awesome. Years and years ago we went to the last test n tune of the year with my racecar. I was gonna get a new personal best out of it one way or another. It had a methanol carb on it, so I got a bright idea. I mixed up 5 gallons of what I thought was 5% nitro in a separate jug. In reality, I think it ended up closer to 10% (math is hard LOL). The air was pretty good and the car was close to running faster than it ever had. I drained the cell, fattened the carb a touch, filled it with the mixed fuel, and headed to the lanes. Did I mention I didn't tell my dad what I was doing? He followed me to the lanes on his bicycle. We got to the lanes and he came up to me and said "what in the hell are you doing?" I played dumber than normal, "what are you talking about?" He said "I can smell that shit in there." LOL Let's just say it was on one helluva pass until it got out about 1000' and melted the electrodes off 5 plugs. Turned out my guestimation on how much to fatten it up was off a fair amount and she was a touch lean. LOL

Thanks for the sub. I ran nitro in my outlaw dirt karts with the same basic builds that you would do for gasoline. Like any other power adder, it living is very dependent on the tune. All parts have their power limit, and a bad tune can make them fail long before that power level is reached

​@@MrTheHillfolk Most of the Nitro engines used on drag racing back in the day were the 392 Chrysler Hemi then eventually the 426 race Hemi engine were used because of the all forged internals and the forged steel 8 bolt crank used . Big daddy Don Garlits was the one who figured out what to do to make those engines run on nitro and one of them was to increase the timing way more than on just running regular race fuel . The Hemi head also produces more power on nitro verses other style head combustion chambers and that's why they dominated the top fuel classes and still do to this day being the new modern top fuel dragster and funny car Hemi engines are largely based off of the old 426 Hemi but upgraded to solid billet aluminum blocks heads and other things to make them strong enough to produce that said 10,000+ HP that they make now .

It won’t mix with petroleum based fuels. You’re pretty much stuck with methanol for mixing with nitro. I’ve considered using it in a meth injection system with a turbo, but haven’t done more than consider it so far.

Nice video, thanks. There are so many ways experimenting with Fuel can kill, injure, or just cost you several blocks. I did similar experiments which cost me a block. Then I strolled the local drag pits to meet the guys running in the Fuel Altered class. They were so friendly and helpful, I ended up with someone to mentor me through the process. I discovered almost everything I thought was wrong. Also, almost everything everyone thought was wrong. Nitro Methane Fuel is awesome. The nitric acid exhaust kills by rendering the victim unconscious where adequate fresh air is available. I had giant bay door open, exhaust piped outdoor, 1.5L engine, dyno runs to tune; all good until one guy fell down. All the experienced guys said dyno results will be invalid anyway, just use the track to tune. They were right. Above 70% you'll likely need more spark; so they say. The LS ignition is pretty good. If it looses power at higher RPMs it could be drowning the spark. That'll cost you one block. Badass ignitions for that engine are easy to get, so I'd just do that now.. I never tried to run lower than 95%, cause why? I ran a modified mag but then switched to high output electronic. The electronic gave me better control. I started engine on gasoline prime with methanol feeding injectors, handy initial startup ignition timing. After it's running well, close off the Nitro Bypass valve to burnout/warmup setting. Never try to start it up with Nitro feeding the injectors; that cost me a set of rods. I ran normally asperated too. I found great results at 12.5:1 static compression. Everyone said my compression was too high, except those with real experience. Be sure to visit local tracks where your new friends are. Almost everyone I've met were incredibly helpful. You may not want to make introduction if something expensive just occurred. But otherwise, they'll welcome you in. I'll bet someone there is already running what you intend to do.
