Life seems to be so much more fun with a Mook to share the load and spread the humor. Every gear head needs someone a Mook. Last year I inherited a 66 Mustang that was parked in 1985 and thereafter ignored in the back of the farm shed. I installed a tuned up kit with SP wires, spliced back together the mice chewed wires, changed the oil, put penetrating oil in each cylinder, filled the brake fluid, put in a couple of gallons of gas (tank was bone dry), sprayed some starter fluid in the carb, got in and it fired right off.....put it in gear and drove it about 5 miles. Everything worked. I wish modern cars were that simple!!!

Seems like with an old carb I can only bring them back to full service with an ultrasonic cleaner. Otherwise they really struggle - hidden inaccessible poop in small channels.
@pclayton50634 жыл бұрын
I agree. At a minimum a good soak in carb cleaner overnight will loosen things up. Those little bleed channels are usually the problem. Got to get them clean or you might as well toss the carb. I usually get rid of those carb filters too when they have them and you use a inline filter. Love these videos!

ultrasonic cleaners are pretty cheap now. I got a 10L ultrasonic for $150 on a good amazon sale. Mustie1 uses his ultrasonic with Gunk carb cleaner in it and that seems to work extremely well. I personally only have cleaned out 1 motorcycle carb with chem-dip in a ultrasonic, but I followed nasa's guidelines for ultrasonic cleaners and flammable materials(water in cleaner, and the chemdip and the carb inside a sealed container with oxygen removed inside container) that went smoothly. whatever mustie1 is using seems to have no issues being straight in the ultrasonic cleaner, but I cant remember if he cuts it with water and the exact cleaner he uses.

Great series on the Bronco. I look forward to more. I would change out the master and all the slave cylinders. The fluid will build up moisture and can rust the pistons in place. I bet the whole job will only cost $40 in parts, hoses are not a bad idea either. As you said with little rust the lines should come off easy enough. I usually like to tighten them a bit to break them free then loosen the lines. Using a light tap with a hammer on the flare wrench helps too.

Good catch on the heads.. the early heads had 14mm plugs with a sealing washer and the later ones were tapered seat plugs.😉 I had a '62 Fairlane with a 260 V8 (little brother to the 289), and it had 14mm plugs with the sealing washer. I also found out when I changed the plugs that they don't run worth a crap when you gap them at .025 like a Briggs & Stratton!😆 (I was 16 at the time and didn't have access to a Chilton manual or the common sense to call the local parts store for advice) *EDIT:* 24:38 - That moment when the accelerator pump spring shoots it's load across the garage!🤣 LMFAO!!

Hot water and pinesol. You probably already know it's a great method for soaking carbs but if you don't let it soak overnight, it's amazing. Also on the bonus pinesol doesn't eat up rubber gaskets so you can basically throw it all in a bucket for the lazy man method. I generally do that and just soak the jets in carb cleaner and it's made easy work out of some of the most crystallized carbs I've ever rebuilt.

Jasmeet Sandhu many adults tell their children to wait until later in life to get married I think that’s the stupidest advice I’ve ever heard because all thats left is leftovers.

Kevin, if you run into a stuck lock in the future, I suggest that you try lubricating it before you trying to force it. Most things in life work better with a little lube.

Not re-build the carburetor Mook, rebel build it! Totally wild carb tip......when some one re-strings a guitar with metal, save the trimmed ends.....great for reaming crud out of passages & jets.

15:07 just saying but you should never do this man. Brake dust in these old cars contains asbestos..
@DIYSCOTT4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this comment it really hurt watching him do that
@NurdRage7774 жыл бұрын
@@DIYSCOTT Yes it really does. My second through was hey wait... What is the brake shoe is made of asbestos :( I might have done the same in the moment but with old brakes and the dust you can better not mess. It's even worse than visiting a building that was closed down with asbestos inside. Because asbestos is only dangerous if it breaks apart and dust forms, if it's not broken it is not a direct threat to your health. Asbestos brakes are banned in almost every where in the world since the 1990s.
