Of course you can keep quite a lot of it intact like that... Scrape off as much of the loose flaky shit as you can then use a rust convertor sparingly on the exposed metal parts, not covering any real leftover paint or bubbles, and then matte clear the whole thing. It will need occasional touch ups, but eventually you will get on top of it.

I was going to post this, you beat me to it. Ford IAC valves are voice coil actuators and are famous for sticking. The cranking air-fuel ratio probably is calibrated assuming the IAC is in the ‘cranking’ position, it might be a tad lean if you’re starting it with the gas pedal and a stuck IAC. It’s been a while since I calibrated Ford EEC-IVs but I recall something about that.

In addition to floor pans, I'd recommend at least a set of lower quarters on that thing for some more structural integrity. I believe that is a unibody and not a full frame. Definitely put quarters on it.

Inline 6's last forever! I put almost 300,000 miles on my 1972 Chevy C-10 engine with 3 on the "tree" before the doors literally rusted off and fell on the tops of my feet. Best truck I ever owned (except the 1966 Dodge D-200 crew cab with the big truck slant six with four on the floor surplus Air Force that went over 300,000 and more). Inline 6's ruled back in the day. You could go 130 mph in a four door Chevy Nova for miles from downtown Rochester, NY to Exit 45 on I-90 in about 15 minutes on I-390. I did put on high speed tires so I wouldn't wreck, but that old '72 Nova flew. It wasn't a quick car, but it was fast. Do a good job on the Nova Mook, then take it out on an interstate as see if it will fly.

Need to check out Mustie1 videos of Crusty and what he did to preserve the "paint" on that. That's be sweet to keep as much as is paint wise.

Burned, pitch black charcoal-colored metal, isn't exactly paint.

@@rogjackson Doesn't look that bad. Some cars got so hot the metal is ruined. Warped, brittle, thinned out, or softened. Roadkill had the BarBcuda Barracuda.

I agree. Looks good. But charcoal and ash aren't exactly patina. I suppose it's debatable. Funny!! I would be tempted to sand/paint unless irreparably heat-warped.

Holy crap I’m so excited for this build. A 68-73 Chevy nova has been my dream car since I was a little kid, I have pictures of them on my vision board right now. I WILL own a nova one day. Until then I will be living vicariously though you and these KZbin videos. What an amazing beautiful vehicle. If you need any help with woodworking type stuff on this car let me know! Idk what you would need that is wood, I just want to be involved somehow, lol.
