A terrific amount of respect on display for the source material, here. As someone who grew up with the Mario series, this song always tugged at my heart. This really shows how much Mario means to him. Even in his grief he’s not fully absorbed by his own shortcomings. He is worried about how losing Mario will impact the world and he prays for his life back. His whole world is effectively gone even if he doesn’t realise that there is still people that care namely Toad and Peach. That’s real friendship, finding your friend who went out to his brother’s grave and being there no matter what. In fact, now that I think about it, that scene is a compliment to the lyrics about his brother. “Without you, I’m lost and alone” becomes “With friends, you’re found and together.”
