To prevent guessing the threads and distances, you should use a caliper and write down the exact height of the combined helicoids. You should also use clues or markings to remember which thread the helicoids broke apart. Good video btw.

That was a great video! I have never seen anything going into that level of detail for repairing lenses before. I was able to repair my Jupiter 9 by following you along. I did have a different model and it was very similar until got to a spring. Luckily I noticed before it expanded, because that would have made a mess of things. I was able to get everything back together and the lens is better than ever. Thanks so much for the video, it gave me the courage to fix a lens I now love to use. I will be watching more of your videos and be braver with repairs knowing you have provided such great instructions.

I just checked you eBay store to see what you had and realized I bought my Contax to e-mount adapter from you about a year ago. Great adapter! It works perfectly for Jupiter lenses and Zeiss/Contax. I'll definitely buy my next Jupiter lens from you knowing how good the adapter is. Thanks again for the video and the adapter!

As usual very good tutorial of great value. Thx a lot for that. I will just do 2 rems : 1/ When you pass a long time around 30' to find the right thread. Don't you think it would be better to mark when the ring dissassembles during dismounting ? Then about the grease : Personnaly I use japonese one which is white with very good durability and which needs very few indeed. I pass it with a brush and this prevents overlaod. If you are interested, I can pass a link to it. Anyway keep on doing these outstanding videos. You give a second (or third ) life to our favorite lenses and thx again for this !!!

Just got one of these win grinding and stiff focus ring. Going ti use this tutorial to disassemble and regrease. Believe is a 1959 red P. The other issue is i think i originally bought wrong adapter for my sony fx3. Got a 39-42 step up ring with m42 to nex mount. No focus ability. So now waiting on l39 to nex. Its a rangefinder m39 mount. Update. New L39 to NEX adapter allows focus but minimum distance is more like 3M instead if the stated 1.5M on ring. I dont think double helicoid was set properly on service. Also grub screws were oartially broken and not flush so ground on focus ring. Be nice to know proper distances for parts with caliper than markings si ce i think it was improperly serviced.

The technician that should lubrificate my Jupter-9 made a mess! It focus on infinity or at close distance. Im thinking of try to do by my self... I will wait his last try ( of 7 ) to fix it, and do it by myself. May i have your help? Or you can work on my lens?

i'm aware about this issue. That's a headache. You can try to adjust it by changing a thickness of aluminium adjusting ring situating between optical block and focusing block

Do you have a similar video for the black, later versions? I've just bought one, and the focus is acceptable, but a bit stiff and I'd like to clean it. My Jupiter 9 is from the 1980s, and I think it's a Pentax ring mount. It has an aperture ring, and another ring that limits/locks how much you can move the aperture (I don't know why). Have you worked on this lens? Thank you, your videos are invaluable to me.

As always, thanks for the great videos. I just got a 1956 red p with very stiff focus. I followed the video (had a hard time reassembling, but managed). I then applied the grease i have, that is supposed to be helicoid-specific (synthetic grease with PTFE) but it's just as stiff as before. Could It be the wrong kind of grease? Where can i buy the one you use? Thank you
@RetroFotoHouse3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Try a lithium based, it will be fine. Prior to apply new grease, old one should be meticulously cleaned from threads, otherwise it will be stiff after lubrication. And do not expect jupiter-9 rangefinder version to be really smooth, as m42 SLR version, it will never be. There are too many moving parts inside. It does not fit for filmmaking purposes.
@mmixo3 жыл бұрын
@@RetroFotoHouse thank you again for the reply. I will try to find this lithium based grease. I am using it for anamorphic shooting, so i really just need infinity. I just got infinity with m39 adapter. I thought that even been a RF version, it would work with m39-m42 then m42-MFT, but it's a macro lens with m42 adapter. It's a wonderful lens, i got one in great optical shape. Thanks again
