Two years ago (10th Sept 2016) my beloved wife of 35 years passed away. She was surrounded by family and went peacefully away in the gentle morning light. Oh how I miss her so much and wish she could still be with us. But time waits for no one and now she's gone to a better place where there is no sickness or disease. In due time I hope very much I will be with her when my time comes. This music gives me hope for that folks..... God Beyond All Praising O God beyond all praising, we worship you today and sing the love amazing that songs can not repay, for we can only wonder at every gift you send, at blessings without number and mercies without end. We lift our hearts before you and wait up on your word; we honour and adore you, our great and mighty Lord. Then hear, O gracious Saviour; accept the love we bring, that we who know your favour may serve you as our king, and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still: to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways, and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise.

Oh my goodness...this is just transcendent and sublime. The melody "Jupiter" has always been amongst my favorite tunes, but as I was searching for the gravestone of a friend who had died 2 weeks ago, the lyrics of this hymn overtook my mind and brought me to tears. The magnificence of Almighty God..the precious souls of all ages who have died...Your post was so healing. Many, many thanks for sharing such beauty and very talent youth.
@caseysavestheday7 жыл бұрын
Etymologically, Jehovah and Jupiter are the same God. Jupiter, or Jovis blended and became Jehovah, and vice versa. So it's wholly appropriate you found Jupiter. God indeed works in the most subtle and mysterious of ways. Names are names, but divinity is unutterably awesome. He reached me through Jupiter. No matter what name he reached you or your friend as, may he hold you both in the palm of his hand.

Do you realize that there is NO MENTION OF ANY GOD IN THE WORDS OF THIS WONDERFUL PIECE. HOLST did not intend this to be about ANY GOD. He was not religious but you just can’t stop yourself can you, you have to bring god into this where the composer had NO INTENTION OF INVOKING GODS OF ANY KIND.

There are two versions of this with words. "O God Beyond All Praising " is a Christian hymn. " I Vow to Thee My Country " is a patriotic British song, featuring a poem that became popular after WWI.

"Thaxted" is a hymn tune by the English composer Gustav Holst, based on the stately theme from the middle section of the Jupiter movement of his orchestral suite The Planets and named after Thaxted, the English village where he lived much of his life. He adapted the theme in 1921 to fit the patriotic poem "I Vow to Thee, My Country" by Cecil Spring Rice but that was as a unison song with orchestra.[1] It did not appear as a hymn-tune called "Thaxted" until his friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise in 1926.[2] (Copied from Wikipedia)

I keep coming back to this video.... there is something very sad and lonely about it - perhaps the young lady left out in the beginning who seems to search and eventually find the source of peace, the music. Not sure - but this is highly emotive. Such a wonderful rendition of this classic and powerful piece of music. It would be amazing if your orchestra would go on tour - I am sure there would be an amazing reception here in South Africa.
