Great job ....we just got this XM in our studios and it’s a monster in a little footprint. Layering 5 patches and 5 separate arpeggios and 256 voice polyphony ...if you can’t create stunning music on this guy you might as well give up. I’m so sick of staring at my laptop and NI keyboard ....feels like I’m at work This instrument draws you in to create and play...worth the price of admission The loopers and cut and paste musicians can stick with their 10000 sound libraries and their MacBooks... sterile and it bores me to death. You can actually take this XM on a gig and have every possibility to make great music. People spend so much time diving into creating a “new” sound by modulating everything with everything and LFOS to Osc 1 into filter blah blah. I have never found I could write a good song spending so much time tweaking and jumping cables and matrices around on my Arturia Maxbrute or Modular setup. Sweeping, morphing, modulating, mangle , stretch. zzzzzzzz Real musicians play an instrument not a MacBook and Abelton Push...just cut clip paste.. it’s the word processor of music...where’s the instrument? Anyway...good job Roland for keeping real usable instrument alive!

Apparently you can send all of these multitimbral appeggiated parts straight to your DAW and edit them there. What a brilliant way of getting ideas down more quickly and organically.

I am still holding out hope that JMJ would drag Kebu along as his opening act when touring the US. It's a perfect choice, definitely better than teh DJ who opens for JMJ currently.

The demos I have heard of the Jupiter-Xm so far give me the impression that Roland’s new digital “Zen” virtual analog engine has a lot of that Analog “bite” to it which the older SN-E engine (Integra-7, Jupiter-80, JD-Xi, JD-Xa, FA-06, etc.) does not have (the SN-E engine can make great pad sounds, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t like using it for leads or arpeggios). For the record, the “zen” engine has four virtual oscillators, and it’s possible to perform ring modulation, FM, or hard sync between the oscillators (the older SN-E can only do ring modulation, and only has up to three oscillators per patch). It is also possible to apply “pulse width” to non-square waveforms. I am pretty sure the “Zen” engine does not have the aliasing issues the PWM waveform with the SN-E engine has in the upper octaves, but can not confirm or deny that. I know Kebu has been a pretty hardcore analog purist, so the fact he is even playing this synth at all means it’s analog emulation is spot on.

Exactly my thought to regarding Kebu.

@Straight Talk I just read the JD-Xa manual. It’s the same SN-E engine as the JD-Xi (and Jupiter-80, etc. but the JD-Xi has fewer PCM waveforms); the only digital oscillator cross modulation is ring modulation (Source: Page 11 of the JD-XA parameter guide). The analog part does have cross-modulation (page 8) and hard sync (page 9), and those parameters are on the front panel, so I can understand the confusion. Source: Roland JD-XA parameter guide
@534548485 жыл бұрын
Talking to myself, but the JD-Xa has five “sync” PCM waveforms (waveform numbers 45-49) and the JD-Xi has four of those (waveform numbers 014-017). So it is possible to get a few “hard sync” sounds from the JD-Xi/JD-Xa digital synth engine, but it’s just four or five fixed different hard sync sounds.

Kebu has always been a staunch supporter of analog synths in his music recordings and during live shows that it's surprising to me that he's using the digital Jupiter Xm. Sure, this is a demo but he really likes it. Furthermore, during an interview with Sonicstate, he said that it was developed with him in mind as a major influencer and that he was a consultant from its beginning. He also said that it's mostly a matter of convenience to use a synth like the J-Xm on tours outside of Northern Europe and for smaller venues because it's easier to transport than 20 other synths which can be very expensive to ship to each concert venue. If it's good enough for Kebu, well...

Hey I am so happy to see this! Just got a Jupiter Xm myself and this is amazing! The monster sound is FOR REAL man, esp. in the capable hands of Kebu. I love it. :) Did he say what he was running on this iPad? Must have been some live-performance-based "DAW"? Also, did you notice his "Roland shoes"? NICE. :D

Nice sounds! I want to know about the intelligent arp, I think they said it has that? Where it writes other parts against your arp/sequence. Intelligent. Inspiring. Need something wonderful, fast? The JUPITER-Xm’s I-Arpeggio is a next generation arpeggiator that uses artificial intelligence to not just accompany you, but to inspire you. I-Arpeggio takes your input-notes, rhythms, phrases-and creates complementary drum parts, basslines, chords, and arpeggiated lines. It works on each of JUPITER-Xm’s five parts simultaneously, and generated patterns can be customized and even exported to your DAW. These aren’t preset backing tracks, but intelligently generated beats and phrases that fill out your live performance and pulverize writer’s block.

@kebu, may I ask to make a song based of this Jupiter try-out? I think these 3 parts together would make a great one. Actually, there is nothing (much) to add to this, it is complete already, indeed. Especially, I love the middle part. One of the rare occassions when I am sort of jealous that it is not my mind/heart which put that part together ;)
