I have this machine and love it. Lasts like crazy. I have like 12 shots most days and zero signs of wear or malfunction after years, which makes it a good value.

We have been using the ENA Micro 1 for about 3 years now and really like it. We mainly use it to make a cup of coffee with a nice layer of crema on top. We aren't interested in coffee drinks that have foamed milk and so appreciate the fact that it doesn't include any unecessary functionality. Curious to know if, in your opinion, the A1 produces a markedly better coffee/shot? Are there other superautos out there that also make decent shots/coffee without the milk accessories?

I have had Saeco Royals throughout most of my adult my life, from the first one I bough in Seoul, in the late 80s to the one I had for at least ten years that I gave to my nephew-in-law (he is a sushi chef after all). before that I had taken one of my Royals to my 200 person office, sat it next to the office drip- coffee tanks, where many people used and abused it. I gave that one away when it started to leak. I had all my units serviced (which involved a trip from Northern Virginia to Pottsville PA). My latest Royal got services in nearby Gaithersbug. When I bought that one in Seoul ($770) , my friend who made a lot more money that me bough the cheaper Saeco Vienna ($440). Unsurprisingly he continued to move onward and upward and ended up living buying a $750K 22nd floor condo overlooking Honolulu Harbor. In it he has this Jura (I don't know the model). It cost him more that $3K. I admired its sleek minimalist (almost Danish) styling compared to my rumorosso e corpulento superautomatica. A month later, and approximately six months of irregular use, the Jura expired. Addio tremila dolari! Ciao! Both repair persons commented on the differences between the machines. They both said, ten years apart, not knowing one another, one with 40 years of repair the other 15 years of experience, having repaired systems from bare metal up. Saeco, particularly pre-Philips, uses better materials.

Gaggia is the big name in building miniaturized coffeeshop machines for home use, Saeco the original maker of the super automatic machines, Philips just the investor, joined forces. Using home devices in the office need a schedule, or a cleaning staff, you need to refill them with water, beans, milk, not a very good solution if you don't have staff to do that. All production is outsourced to China, most super automatic machines chair parts, brew groups, system boards. Cheap now, they just use a lot more plastic, not build to last years. All these new machines just need to be replaced, it's not your Gaggia Classic that can be fixed on ever issue.

yes ,but now the phillips saeco is made in romania not in italy like the old models.why dont you buy a new saeco model to see how long will last. i too have a saeco incanto for over 10 years and i cant complane.But the quality is way better with the old models.a new model won't last 5years in my opinion. :)

If I wanted a superautomatic machine this would be something for me as I don't want milk in my coffee and this machine is super simple and quiet. cons for me are only 1 scoop not 2 of pre-ground and I would have to do 2 smaller shots as 7-10 g are too litle for me plus superautos do not go near as fine as espresso grinders do.
@JK-ug7rm
@JK-ug7rm 7 жыл бұрын
This is the subject I would like to learn more about... I'm tired of the coffee mess in my kitchen, and looking into superautomatics or pod (e.g. Lavazza Blue). I want pure espresso; no milk or added flavors. I want strong/bold flavor espresso. I think of coffee on a bell curve. There's a lot of average espresso. I imagine people are spending $5,000+ to try to be in the top 1% leading edge of espresso making, and don't mind cleaning up the mess. For me, I might be happy being in the 80% quality of espresso making as long as it doesn't cost too much, or require too much cleaning. I figure making espresso can't be too hard nor expensive, but milk will add to the complexity and cost. Doing 2 espresso shots to achieve the quanity and same concentration as 20g of coffee sounds like a good compromise for being superautomatic, as it means waiting and pushing a button. BUT...I am VERY interested in more discussion around the coffee ground size, and how that changes the espresso.

I have the A1 and I love it! I do exactly what you mentioned above-I make two small shots at 10 grams each and they come out pretty darn good. If I don't do it this way they come out to weak and watery for my taste. I'm highly discriminating and these shots come out pretty close to a high end coffee shop.
@Farcry101010
@Farcry101010 6 жыл бұрын
William Goldman is the 10 grams something you program? Also can you program the amount of actual espresso per shot? Meaning 10 g of coffee = 0.75 oz. of espresso in cup? On my Synchronika I do 1.5-1.75 oz espressos with 18 grams coffee. I’m not sure how this A1 works. I do want one.
@williamgoldman6658
@williamgoldman6658 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Farcry, There are 2 permanent setting options you can choose. 1 bean is about 6 or 7 grams and 3 beans is 10 grams the water amount for espresso can be set precisely and quite easily. So I set mine at about 1 ounce and use the 3 bean (10 gr) setting. I am very discriminating and approach espresso like fine wine tasting. When I use my favorite beans(not too oily) the espresso this machine produces is as good and often times better than high end coffee shops because it is so consistent unlike human baristas. I hope this helps!

William Goldman hi William. Thank you for the reply. Ok. One more question. If u want a regular cup of coffee. Say a 12 oz. cup. Does this unit make a good cup. Or do I have to make 2-10gram coffee shots at 60z each? Meaning if I want to make a 12oz. Cup can I just hit the 3 bean (10g) for say 12 oz. of water? Will the coffee be weak? Thank u in advance

You can't remove the infuser, that's where jura's evil comes out. they make you call a jura technician every year otherwise the machine will clog up. and believe me, super autos get extremely dirty and moldy if you don't clean the infuser. Jura does have auto clean functions just like saeco. but that's just not enough. wet coffee grounds always find a way to get stuck somewhere and grow mold.

@@Jules-bass Whoopsies, that's a pain in a**. I wish they had covered that in the video, because that is actually extremely important when choosing between machines.

@@aaronmarogna1054 I just programmed the coffee cup button to make 1/2 cup of coffee, make it twice, and it makes a really nice full cup of coffee (and that's using the one bean symbol, not the three, which would be even stronger - too strong for me and my wife). Yes, you have to push the coffee button twice and it takes a bit longer, but it works for me.
