pinoy love teams go back even before k-drama, even past hispanic telenovelas. as a 90's kid, we got love teams from teen drama shows that aired during the weekends... WEEKENDS! it's not enough that soaps dominated the weekday afternoon & evening slots, they even showed dramas on weekends! ... as an anime & cartoon kid, this annoyed the heck outta me, since the slots for my shows are so limited. if i miss that week's episode, im basically missing a week's worth of my past time!

For as long as I can remember, the DongYan was so popular that it boosted channel 7 primetime into probably it's highest rating it will ever achieve, I think it was mid 2004 to 2010, plus they're probably the only filipino love team I know that was actually realized because they actually did became a couple and also got married and had 2 kids(I don't know many filipino love teams as I'm mostly a kid that watches anime at the afternoon, and mostly only know these because my mom was a vig fan of them at that time)

OHHHH GOD DON’T GET ME STARTED WITH ALDUB Back when that love team was hella famous, my grandma was a SUPER FAN to the point she’s delulu enough to believe their marriage and kids are real. While me and my mom defended to her that it’s all an act and the real parents weren’t involved. 😂 Fast forward where the love team died out and went their own lives, especially that Maine is already married, grandma still believes that Aldub is real and Maine should be with Alden. 🤣🤣

Love teams have actually been around for years and is a big part of filipino entertainment. If a celebrity is part of a popular love team, they'd always be paired with their love team for most, if not all, of their projects as their onscreen love interests as fans would expect it (plus it's guaranteed ratings). Depending on how popular that love team is, the fandom can get rabid and obsessed with it being real offscreen. Some love teams do become a couple in real life but some only do so as promotional stunt (it's why I don't believe in them unless they're married lol). Aldub may be no more as a love team and of half of it (Maine) is already married to someone else but the fandom is still ongoing. Their hashtag trying to boycott the network trends sometimes and they still believe Maine is married to Alden secretly.

There is only one loveteam ship that sailed, they started being loveteam when they were both inside Pinoy Big Brother. That was Melason (Melai x Jason), they started as a loveteam in the Big brother house, they dated after they got out of the Big brother house, they starred in a couple romance movies, and the last time I heard from them is they got married and had a kid together. So they had their happy ending.
